Click the pics. It might brighten up your day. Not much is going to brighten up mine. Mountains on the way to Alamosa,
Ready to pack down the snow on the ski slopes. Strange red flower I saw this summer

How far south and down would you HAVE to go to get out of the immediate too cold mess?

It looks like in New Mexico you would have to get south of Alamogordo to get into the 60s. The nights will still be in the 30s and 40s. But you know how New Mexico is, you can be freezing to death in Deming.

I am looking at changing location in late December if everything goes right. Just where is not chosen yet.

I think just about the only place's that I've been reliably warm in December is on the Gulf Coast in the area where you're at now, or the Arizona desert in Phoenix or anywhere South of there.

Well, I don't think you are being too afraid of the covid business. The OFM is currently in the warmest place in TX. You could join him. Or even farther south on the coast. Or what about the fairgrounds in AZ where you got that wonderful photo of the young woman on a horse...barreling racing, as I recall. The world is your doorstep. Or something like that. Of course I write from my firmly ensconced place in central TX, in a small town. Only downside is it's Trump country, But you can delete that sentence. Might get you many unwanted comments. I think that's why our covid count just keeps going up and up even in a small population. Everybody acts like nothings happening. Oh geez. I should probably delete this comment myself. But I guess I won't.

I will probably head for the Texas Gulf coast next winter but it's more crowded over there and right now with the Bat flu still running around there's not as many folks in the desert areas so I feel a little safer.

I am glad you've decided to move on. The numbers of covid cases are rising again so running away seems like the right thing to do to me. I've stopped going out at all again, even cancelled some surgery due later this month, and am holed up again for the foreseeable future.

I don't think of it as "running away", I characterize it as rapidly moving to a safer location. Yes the Bat flu has picked up in parts of Colorado as was suggested would happen when it got cold and people started staying indoors more.
