Home is where I Park it

The clicking the pic experience could be an experience never before experienced, except by the experienced.

A mountain sunset brings a glow to the few remaining yellow leaves on the aspens in the foothills.

I must've set beside a duck filled Lake for half an hour,  watching the sun go down behind these mountains wondering; how in the world did I ever end up living a life like this.

Something I mentioned the other day and would like to expand upon a little bit was when I said that I don't have to worry about leaving anything behind because I have everything with me.... And I figured out, that's a better feeling to have than I realized.

If you look at the last mini-vacation I took to Alamosa back when I was living in the Arctic Fox, I, of course, would leave the Arctic Fox camped at the San Luis wildlife area and drive the truck the 20 miles or so to one of the wildlife refuges to watch the birds and take some pictures.

The night before I would leave for the wildlife refuges, I would go over my checklist of the various things I needed to take out of the Arctic Fox and put in my truck, mostly camera stuff, some water, and maybe a sandwich. And since the things I put in the truck were all extremely important and made a difference in whether or not I could take a picture, I had to be very thorough in my packing lest I arrive at my destination with no battery for my camera.

But on this current mini-vacation, it was different, and different in a good way. Halfway to the wildlife area, since old habits are hard to break, I started thinking that; I hope I didn't forget something! Then it occurred to me that I couldn't forget anything because I didn't pack anything; the Lance has everything I need to comfortably live in it, up to and including taking pictures!

It was then that it hit me that my home truly is where I park it, both literally and figuratively. It was sorta that way full-timing in the Arctic Fox.... But not really, it only applied as long as the truck was hitched up to the Arctic Fox, which most of the time it wasn't, in actuality the Arctic Fox was "home base." but with the Lance, home actually is where I park it, and it's that way 24/seven, every day of the year, no matter where I'm at.

Now for you camping vanners out there, and you know who you are, and even some class "C" folks, you've always experienced the "home is where you park it" so you know exactly what I'm talking about. But the trailer campers and class "A" folks with a toad have never experienced the true meaning of living like a turtle and always being at home.

Some trees change to their Fall colors all alone with no one watching. But just because no one's watching doesn't mean its not beautiful, so even along this seldom used dirt road, with its nearest neighbor half a mile away, this tree still put on a show that made me stop and take its picture.

Sandhill cranes coming in for a landing. Seeing these cranes from 100 or more yards away made me really want to get up close to the cranes again, so I'm pretty sure now that I'm going to the Bosque Del Apache in New Mexico when I head South the end of this month.
