How are things going living in the Lance?

Not much going on today, still a little breezy, but overall the weather is beautiful. And speaking of the weather, I'm a bit curious as to why there were so many flowers blooming in Arizona, but right next-door in New Mexico there's very few flowers. Maybe altitude has something to do with it, Deming is about 4500 feet, and Rock Hound is a bit higher than that and that's higher than most places I stayed in Arizona, and this part of New Mexico was a lot colder than most of Arizona so maybe that would explain it.

I haven't mentioned anything lately about how I'm doing living in the Lance, or answered the question does it feel like home yet? And I guess that's because I haven't quite figured it out myself. It does feel like home to me, but I'm very adaptable and am usually able to live under most conditions and enjoy myself, in other words I'm not picky. I've always been able to take whatever situation I was in and make the best of it because I never sweat the small stuff.

I think my biggest complaints of living in the Lance for this winter would come down to three things, very little counter space in the kitchen, not much storage space, and a barely comfortable seating position.

I can muddle through the tiny kitchen, but if I actually tried to cook things it would be pretty difficult with the limited amount of counter space I have. Add a smallish refrigerator, and limited pantry storage, and that compounds the problem. So gourmet meals are not in the cards in less you consider popcorn and a glass of V8 a gourmet meal.

Lack of storage space has always been a problem in a truck camper, and I believe I can speak with some authority on that since this is my third one. There's plenty of space for storage if you use the Lance the way it's supposed to be used which is, a weekend at the lake, or a two week vacation. But asking it to be roomy and comfortable to live in full-time is too much to ask... In less you're very adaptable, can deal with its shortcomings, don't have a picky bone in your body, and have the ability to repair all of the things that can go wrong with a camper that's supposed to be used for the weekend, instead of lived in for years.

But by far my biggest problem is, the seating is uncomfortable. And this is been a problem with every truck camper I've ever had. It seems like the seats are not even designed to be comfortable, there designed to be as lightweight, and take up as little space as possible. And after months of sitting in them, laying on them, and lounging on them, I have yet to find a way to sit comfortably for more than 10 or 15 minutes at a time.

I've got some ideas I'm going to try this summer while in Denver, because there I have access to all my tools, and garage space to work in. So hopefully by next winter uncomfortable seating will at least be one problem that I've solved.

This heart-shaped prickly pear cactus probably had a bite taken out of it by a Javelina, they love prickly pear cactus and are not at all bothered by the cactus spines.
