How can I take a mini vacation with hordes of tourist crawling over the mountains like ants?

Guffey Colorado, the town that time forgot, and the residents forgot the time.... Internet??? We don't need no stinking Internet!

Since getting home I haven't done much except rest up from the camping trip. One of the things I never liked about going camping is all the time and effort it takes to pack everything you think you will need. Hopefully not forgetting something you know you need, or not taking something you needed but didn't know it.

It's also not fun to get back home from the trip and have to take all that stuff back out of the camper and put it back in your house again. Fortunately since I plan on using the little Bronco to go camping again, I can leave most of the stuff in it which means getting ready to leave the next time I go camping will be a lot simpler.

After experiencing the hordes of tourists that are running around Colorado at the moment, but still wanting to take a mini-vacation I've been checking out maps looking at Colorado places where tourists might not want to go but I could take a mini-vacation without having to deal with traffic jams and a thundering herd of vacationers, but I quickly figured out that the places where there's no tourists, aren't very interesting.

One of the problems is only half of Colorado is fun to be in, and that's the High Country half. The other half is mostly barren Prairie that's only interesting to ranchers, farmers, and folks that want to see the tracks made by covered wagons.

And boring is not it's only problem. The plains are famous for taking the summer storms that roll out of the high country in the afternoon and turning them into epic events of rain, lightning, and tornadoes. And since tornadoes are right at the very top of the list of things that I don't want to camp near, half of Colorado is automatically off-limits.

It appears that this summer's mini -vacations are going to require a lot of thinking, some of which may have to be outside the box, and some may be nowhere near a box.

This is a pretty good example of the old saying "One man's trash is another man's treasure." In this particular case I think it leans heavily towards trash.

Since I like old cars this looks like all treasure to me. That's the Guffey Jail in the background. When the Guffey circuit Judge sentences you to hang you probably think to yourself.... Thank God I didn't have to go to that jail.

This is what happens to your old house in Guffey if its not properly maintained. During the winter the snow load will get so heavy it will squash your old house flat.

And speaking of snow, this person has quite a collection of old skis which might be the only way you can get around Guffey in the wintertime. I'm pretty sure Guffians don't let six or eight feet of snow keep them out of the local saloon..... and yes there is a local saloon.

Speaking of which, here is that very same saloon of which I previously spoke. I heard a rumor there's a Walmart in the planning stages and local building codes will require that it looks exactly like this.
