I am currently at Haggard's RV Park a few miles west of Pueblo Colorado. I've stayed here before, back before I went full-time, and knew the owners here were very friendly, helpful and accommodating people so it seemed like a good place to stay while I'm in the process of getting my new motorcycle
I wanted to buy the motorcycle in Colorado because that's my state of residency, but I had been having troubles finding the motorcycle I wanted at any of the dealer's in Colorado. Finally last week I found that Fremont Motorsports in Florence Colorado had one, and only one.
I called them and bought it sight unseen over the phone. Normally I wouldn't do that but I've been reading about this motorcycle for almost a year, and since the motorcycle is new I felt safe in making a commitment before I actually saw it in person.
This whole motorcycle deal is like a jigsaw puzzle because I have to do several things before I can actually put it on the back of the Arctic Fox and drive away.
I've done the first and second things which was find and buy the motorcycle. Now since the Yamaha WR 450 is a dirt bike it can't be driven on the streets in its normal configuration, but the dealer is going to put street legal parts on the bike which will enable me to have it titled by the state of Colorado as a street bike and then I can get a tag for it.
Then my next problem is I have no way of carrying the motorcycle, so I have to have a motorcycle carrying rack made and welded to the back of the frame of the Arctic Fox. I've checked with the Northwood factory and they've given me the go-ahead for the project.
After all that I still can't legally ride the motorcycle on the street because I have no motorcycle license. I checked into that and figured that the easiest and quickest way of getting a motorcycle license is to take a two day course in motorcycle safety and that will qualify me to be issued a Colorado motorcycle license. And the best thing is that method limits the amount of time that I have to deal with the dreaded DMV.
I'm going to Fremont Motorsports tomorrow and get the paperwork done, take some pictures, and find out more about what it takes to make the bike street legal. And hopefully all that will go smoothly.
Tomorrow I will tell you about the INCREDIBLE stroke of luck I had this morning while checking into Haggard's RV Park.
