I have seen the elephant

Clicking the pics is like eating your vegetables, they don't look very good, but it's something you're supposed to do.

I went into town this morning and got some diesel fuel just In case I suddenly decided I wanted to go someplace.

It's pretty cloudy and predicted to be that way off and on for the rest of the week. I, of course like that, because cloudy skies are more interesting than cloudless blue skies. Temperatures are still in the 70s and 80s, with night times in the 50s, so even though I'm plugged into shore power, I still don't feel the need to run the air conditioner.

I feel like hanging around here for a while, but with the places I like to boondock still full and the reservation sites usually booked for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I don't like being in the crowds at the hookup sites, and all the folks that used to boondock all over Elephant Butte state Park are now squeezed down into a tiny area; my options are somewhat reduced.

The back-in sites are usually available but relatively small for the Arctic Fox and me. This probably explains why the pull-through sites are typically packed, and the back-in sites are largely empty.

There's plenty of boondocking room on the beach but pulling the Arctic Fox down there scares me. It obviously can be done because I've seen this place packed to the gills with RVs on the beach during a holiday like Easter. But I've been down there next to the water with just my truck, and there were a couple of places I had to put it in four-wheel-drive to get out. And yes, I've seen RVs being towed out of the sand on the beach. So I've never felt desperate enough to risk camping next to the water on the beach.

That pretty much leaves the Ridge road area, which is on a bluff overlooking the beach and the water. It's my favorite place to boondock, but I'm not the only one who likes it. But other than the beach, it's just about the only boondocking left nowadays in less you're vehicle is set up with proper tires that can deal with random areas of loose sand.

If you look carefully you can see two brave RVers that are boondocked on the beach. I've driven on beaches before, Padre island Texas would be one of the last ones I can remember, and I can't count the times I've driven on Daytona Beach. But pulling a trailer down there worries me. I'm pretty sure I could get it down to the beach, but it's all uphill coming back, unlike the flat beaches on the Texas Gulf coast or Daytona Beach Florida.
