I need to go to Walmart and buy some Thanksgiving dinner

Sorry I'm taking pictures of the same view all the time but the sunrises have been so beautiful for the last few days, I can't help it because I only have to step outside my door to get these pictures. and stepping outside my door is about the only thing I'm capable of doing this early in the morning.

One week away from Thanksgiving, and I still need to do my grocery shopping.

Even though Thanksgiving day is seven days away, in the RV world, it will take less time for the crowds to get here. Keep in mind I've never spent a Thanksgiving at the Elephant, but based on other holidays I've spent here, the Thanksgiving folks will start trickling in Tuesday the 21st, and by the afternoon of Wednesday the 22nd, the crowds will be pouring in.

There are three main beaches here in the area where I'm at, and that's where most of the action will be, so I have no desire to park on the beach at any time, much less during a holiday. Since the beaches are boondocking areas, no individual parking spots exist. You park anywhere on the beach that you feel like parking, which is normally just fine, but on a holiday when everything is crowded, and there's a lot of drinking going on, there can be more action on the beach than I want to be a part of. So I feel very lucky to be sitting on top of a little hill overlooking all the action on the beach, close enough to see it but far enough away not to be disturbed by it.

Circling back to what I first started talking about, I need to go to Walmart and buy my Thanksgiving dinner. I can't shop too early because of my limited storage space and barely adequate refrigerator. But I don't want to wait too late for fear things will run out.

This coming weekend would not be a good time to go shopping since I would imagine that's when a lot of normal folks would do their Thanksgiving shopping, so I'll probably go to Walmart on Monday or Tuesday.

I definitely won't wait till next Wednesday because you don't dare leave a boondocking spot sitting open with nobody in it that close to the holiday; folks get desperate to find a place by then, and no matter how well you mark your spot, like I have to do since I'm in a truck camper if you're gone someone might decide to ignore the signs that it's you're spot and move in any way. And remember, because of my annual park pass on my windshield, there's no paperwork tying me to any location in the park at any time.

None of that has ever happened to me in the past, and I don't recall anyone telling me it happened to them, but I tend to be extra careful around a holiday, mostly because some folks tend to drink too much and become unpredictable.

Too early for me to be getting up, but I did anyway.

A peaceful day of fishing on the lake. When you're in a sailboat it's call sailing, when you're in a canoe it's called canoeing, these folks are in pontoon boats, I wonder if it's called pontooning?

Well I don't get tired of the same views...the light is always different, something else about it to notice, etc.
And as for shopping - timing is of the essence. Good luck.

Thank you, John, and it's nice to hear from you. I've never owned a pontoon boat before so I had no idea that's what they were called, thanks for the enlightenment, they are real popular around here.

Well Barney, I figure you must've done about all the simplifying an RVer can do without pushing a grocery cart down the street with all your possessions in it. So about the only thing left for you would be a smaller RV.

I've always liked the concept of an RV being made out of molded fiberglass like a boat, it's very strong, and less places likely to leak. And even if it does leak there's no wood holding it together to rot.

I've always been a fan of the molded fiberglass truck campers like the Bigfoot and Northern Lite, the problem being, and the reason I don't own one, is there fairly heavy compared to other construction methods. So I imagine the same pros and cons would apply to the Casita type trailers.

You certainly wouldn't be alone with a "rolling egg" type trailer, I see them everywhere I go, and often see them gathered together in great herds like migrating geese in Quartzsite during the winter.

I don't stay in enough RV parks to know what's going on there, but it seems to me that the rolling egg folks tend to boondock a lot, at least that's where I'm seeing them most of the time.

But I would suggest a man of your advanced years should make up your mind fairly quickly as to what type of RV you want, or just skip the RV and move directly into the Failing Heart Retirement Home for the Perpetually Decrepit.

I like the egg floorpan that has a bed at the back with a small dinette along one side. The biggest challenge for Barney likely would be that tiny fridge.

I've never paid attention to what size refrigerators the rolling eggs have. But I believe the old rule holds true that no matter how big an empty space is you will eventually fill it up, and that holds true for refrigerators.

Barney does some cooking, and doing some cooking probably requires a larger refrigerator than I would need, I consider a can opener the most important part of my kitchen. But maybe the Casitas can be had with larger refrigerators than stock. And, of course, there are those 12 V ice chest-looking refrigerators that seem fairly popular with the van campers. So I'm sure there must be ways around a tiny refrigerator problem.
