I'm a father, and I've had a happy day

When we got to Lucille's Cajun restaurant at 8:30 this morning the indoor waiting area was full so these folks are waiting outside to get a seat at the indoor waiting area where they can wait to get a table.

Since it's Father's Day today, my family took me out for breakfast at Lucille's Cajun restaurant, only a few miles from the house. It's one of my favorite places to eat, so it's normally saved for special occasions.

Unfortunately, when we arrived at eight-thirty in the morning, it was already crowded enough that there was an hour's wait to get seated. I'm apparently not the only one that likes this place, but I have a personal rule: I refuse to wait an hour to get fed no matter where I'm at, and even my favorite restaurant is no exception.

We were just about to leave when my daughter suggested that we could order now and take it home since the restaurant seating takes so long. This worked out well, and after walking along the river that flows behind Lucille's for about 15 minutes, Lucille's had our breakfast bagged up and ready to go.

So instead of sitting in a noisy restaurant, we all got to eat at home in peace and quiet, which is much nicer for me since noisy restaurants make it difficult for me to hear anyone talking.

I don't know if you young whippersnappers have the same problem, but since I worked on the flight line for four years in the Air Force around various airplanes that were running their engines, both prop and jets, my hearing was damaged enough that I can barely hear some people talking in a normal voice. In a crowded restaurant, especially with hardwood floors, the roar of the crowd drowns out anyone speaking near me that I'm trying to hear, so having a normal conversation is almost impossible and certainly no fun for anyone trying to talk to me.

And it's the same for anyone in a car with me, whether I'm driving or a passenger; the sound of the engine, and the roar of the tires rolling on some types of roads, make it difficult for me to hear anyone that's talking. Fortunately, there's never anyone riding with me for half the year. And just family members during the summer, and they understand my problems.

These Cottonwoods that grow along the river bank, are sending their "cotton" into the air at this time of year making some folks, especially folks like me, sneeze.

Most kids try to have fun no matter what's going on. What kid could walk by this giant frog crawling out of the river without sitting on its back?
