I'm enjoying rockhound a lot more this time

For a long time, I had written off Rockhound state park as a place to stay because of the difficulty of getting a camping spot that the Arctic Fox would fit into, or maybe I should say; if I had the skills necessary to back the Arctic Fox into any available campsite. But, unfortunately, it always seemed that the campsites at Rockhound were either very small or somewhat difficult to get a 30-foot fifth-wheel into.

This is not an odd situation for many state parks because most campgrounds were built decades ago before RVs reached the gigantic proportions that we now consider normal.

 And then, if you figure that they were built by government contractors that were there only because they had the lowest bid, you can see why some of the campsites were constructed with little or no concern for the campers that are trying to get into them.

And then tell the lowest bidding contractor that the campground has to be built on the side of a hill in a limited space, such as Rockhound, and you can end up with campsites difficult to get IN and OUT of.

But traveling in the bronco like I did this winter ended that problem. It brought several other issues to the fore, but getting in and out of small campsites is not one of them. So it looks like if I'm going to be traveling small, which I hope will happen, making a stopover at Rockhound State Park could go back to being a regular part of my travels.

Like I mentioned yesterday, where I'm boondocked, the sun has to rise over a pretty tall mountain so I knew the sunrise at my location was going to be pretty poor. But I was lucky enough to hit the timing just right to get this snapshot of what the rising sun was shining ON this morning.
