This morning I drove to the other side of Interstate 8 and visited an old World War II abandoned Army Air Force Base. For scale those two dark lines at the bottom is Interstate 8. And this is the picture I got off Google earth. It had an interesting history which you can find at. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dateland_Air_Force_Auxiliary_Field
I'm assuming the way it worked was the Bomber would be sitting on this concrete apron and would fire its machine guns at targets in the concrete structure. In other words this building was a glorified, very expensive, backstop. But this whole area is so flat they had to have something to shoot at that would stop the bullets.

I've been hearing about the special flower springs for as long as I've been coming to Arizona, but I've never experienced one. Maybe they weren't happening when I was here, or maybe I wasn't at the right place at the right time, but I've been thinking that with all the rains we've been having maybe this should be the winter when I should go find some flowers.
