A member of my family mentioned in passing that it was going to snow next week. I first assumed they were joking because temperatures in Denver have been the high 80s, low 90s for the last week or so, and this weekend it's supposed to get up to almost 100° both Saturday and Sunday. Then I thought maybe they were talking about Alaska, but I was wrong. Next Tuesday, the weather forecast calls for a 41° high, a 30° low, and 3 1/2 inches of snow. Now that is hard to believe. I knew I would see weather like that before I headed south after Thanksgiving; I just didn't think it would be this soon.

To deal with cold weather, I usually need to have time to become mentally and physically prepared. I expect the cold weather to gradually sneak up on me over a period of days so that I can become somewhat acclimatized to the drop in temperatures and not just suddenly have the bottom fall out of the hot weather I've gotten used to, and if the predictions are correct, have the high temperature drop 50° in one day. But that's the way it is in Colorado. The weather can change drastically, and the higher the elevation, the more drastic the change can be.

It would be feasible to leave to go south at your usual time then make the short trip back for Thanksgiving and head back south right after the weekend.

That is possible Barney. I hadn't actually considered it before, but that's not a bad idea. I'll look into that.

I wouldn't want to get too far South because of the long drive back to Colorado, but I would have to get far enough south so it would be at least somewhat warm. I'll give that idea some consideration. And the availability of New Mexicos state parks would probably have to figure into my decision.

The Bureau of Land Management in Arizona is planning to offer normal services and facilities at the Long-Term Visitor Areas (LTVA) for the upcoming winter season. The LTVA season will begin on schedule on September 15. The four La Posa LTVAs near Quartzsite (La Posa North, South, West, and Tyson Wash), and the Imperial Dam LTVA near Yuma are a popular winter tradition for the visiting public. We need everyone to do their part to ensure a successful LTVA season.
BLM staff will continue monitoring COVID-19 guidelines from state and local health officials, and we will adjust operations as needed to comply with those guidelines.
While we plan to maintain facilities and services as we do each year, LTVA visitors can be best prepared by bringing their own sanitation supplies such as toilet paper and hand sanitizer. We remind our visitors to follow the CDC’s guidance to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, including maintaining social distancing, covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and staying home if you feel sick.
We continue to keep most BLM public lands in Arizona accessible during the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing the public to have a place to be socially distant, together. We appreciate our visitors’ cooperation in making this winter’s LTVA season a successful one.

Thank you for that Larry, I hadn't heard that before. It's good to know that at least Quartzsite sounds like it's going to be at least semi-normal. And the LTVA system sounds like not much has changed. In this year of changes its good to know I can at least depend on Quartzsite to boondock like normal

Since you have the experience of the pickup campers and I don't, would you blog or email me about using them for full timing. The holding tanks seem to me to be the biggest limitation without a workaround available.

That's a great idea Barney I was wondering what I could write about tomorrow. I've wondered myself about how a pickup camper would work as a full-time RV so tomorrow I will write my blog about my opinions and what knowledge I have about slide in camper's. I've only owned pop-up slide in camper's so my opinions will be limited to those.

La Posa South feels to me like a safe place to dump and fill since their facilities are spread out a bit. It's good to know those will be open.

Yeah I had been wondering if the LTVA's were going to be operating like normal so it's good to know they are. I've always liked boondocking at La Posa South although the dumpsite line can get pretty long during the Big Show.
