Is the bat flu Situation improving? Or is it doing the same thing its been doing?

Another beautiful day in the desert, and it looks like that's going to continue for at least as far out as the ten-day forecast goes.

It's hard to believe it's the middle of February already; time flies by for me at an alarming rate. I've been here in Quartzsite past my officially allowed two-week stay, but I have to look at the calendar to believe it. I feel like it's time to move on. But it appears that laziness and wanting to watch the Parker 250 desert race this weekend will keep me here till early next week.

It appears that the Bat flu situation is improving... Again. If you look at the endless charts that were exposed to on the news, it seems like the Bat flu gets worse, peaks out, and then gets better; a few months later, it does the same thing all over again. I'm hoping this time it's for real, and the vaccine is actually improving the situation, but who knows, only a small percentage of the country is getting the vaccine so far, so I'm not sure how much effect it could have already. But one things for sure, at the moment, I don't trust politicians or government scientists to know what's going on, and I don't see anything in the future that would change my mind about that.

When large amounts of citizens no longer trust their government to serve on their behalf, that's not the right direction for a country to be going. And it reminds me back when the Russian communist government fell apart, and a foreign reporter asked a Russian citizen what it was like living under communism. The man said, "We pretend to work, and the government pretends to pay us."

If you look at the charts, graphs, and computer models from all over the world, there's hardly any dramatic difference in the results of the Bat flu on any given population, no matter what precautions are or aren't taken. Other than some extreme examples in some countries, which could easily be explained by faulty records keeping or flat out lying, there's almost no difference in the peaks and valleys of the statistics from hardly any country in the world no matter when and how bad the Bat flu hits. For the most part, the charts are basically the same from everywhere no matter how strict the lock-downs and no matter how many people are or aren't wearing masks and taking other precautions.

I'm probably not going to get my Kung flu shot until I get back to Denver; it sounds like some places won't give you the shot unless you live there anyway. And since I'm fortunate enough to be able to effectively self-isolate by boondocking in the desert and not interacting with strangers unless it's necessary, there's probably folks out there that need the shot worse than I do, so I can wait.

Here are two different types of slide in truck campers that accomplish the same thing in two different ways. The camper on the right is a standard pop-up truck camper very much like my little Bronco pop-up camper. It has insulated, waterproof, canvas type walls under the roof, which fold down inside the camper when you lower the top.

The camper on the left is a much more uncommon design, it's a hard sided telescoping camper called the Alaskan. The roof and a couple of feet of the hard side telescope down onto the lower level. The point being is your camper is not partly a tent, and gives you most of the same benefits of a normal slide in camper.

The downside is their more expensive, heavier, and back in the day the Alaskan camper had problems with the main seal around the telescoping part that allowed various uninvited critters to get into the camper with you.
