Last rays of the sunset.

I walked over to the office this morning winding my way through dozens of brand-new, homeless, tightly packed RVs, and re-upped for what I'm pretty sure will be the last time. And no one could ever guess what upcoming event caused me to finally decide to leave.

I think it's a pretty natural and normal feeling to want to settle down someplace and stay for long periods of time, and I think what triggers that feeling to stay and not leave is when you hang around someplace "too long". I don't know what "to long" is and I'm sure it varies from person to person but it appears in my case 2 1/2 months is "too long" because that's how long I've been at the Pima County Fairgrounds and I know it's time for me to move on.

So that gives me a week to make a few reservations.... you have no idea how much I can't stand that word.... at campgrounds to stay at on the way back to Denver, and a few Walmarts to call and see if they still allow overnighting. There's a lot of packing up to do since 2 1/2 months has given me plenty of time to spread out. But I can hear it now, that little voice in my head that has whispered to me all my life, "it's time for me to get on the road to someplace, anyplace, because I've been here too long".

So what was it that gave me the kick in the pants and motivated me to pull in the slides and leave, believe it or not..... a drive-in movie.

I knew you couldn't guess!....Somebody contracted with the Fairgrounds to put a portable, temporary, outdoor movie screen on the outdoor stage adjacent to me next weekend, and their going to have a drive-in movie theater in the grassy area where you see the sprinklers in my sunset pictures and charge $15 a carload to watch the movie. I think the whole set up is going to look a lot like the high school graduation ceremony I showed you a few weeks ago.

Now that's not so bad, in fact I thought I would have a ringside seat but I was informed that I might have to move to a different campsite because I may be in the way where I am now. So I figured if I had to pack up and move anyway, I might as well keep moving until I get to Denver.

Old Roses drying out in the hot desert sun and single-digit humidity.

This used, but kind of new looking fifth wheel, probably one somebody traded in on a new RV, is waiting around hoping for a new owner that will take it camping again so it can enjoy the shade of the national forests, the desert sunsets, and the smell of marshmallows roasting over a campfire while kids and grandkids play under its awning. But unfortunately it looks like a manufacturing defect or just plain carelessness may have caused this poor fifth wheel to delaminate. And through no fault of its own may never experience the joy of being a big part of a family's vacation plans again.
