It doesn't take much snow to make me wimp out

No pics to click today, but tomorrow I'll put on my parka and see if I can find any.

It's been snowing for most of the day today, but not very hard so there's only two or three inches built up because the ground is still warm and the snow melts pretty fast. I have to apologize for no pictures today but because of the snow and the cold, I didn't get out and take any.

It's been another cold day today, I don't think it made it up to 40° by this afternoon, and tonight is supposed to be below freezing. It doesn't take much of this kind of weather to get me longing for some warm, desert air.

When I'm huddled in the Lance camper trying to stay warm, it's very easy for me to start thinking about places I want to go where it's warm. And I was thinking recently about Lake Havasu, Nevada, which is a great place to be in the winter. Even though the dictation software I use to write this blog will write various things when I say Lake Havasu such as... I have assumed, Leigh Sue, Lake has a Sue, and in every other conceivable way, it will spell it wrong without ever accidentally writing Lake Havasu. But that's okay because it's such a fantastic place to be, with great boondocking, that it's worth having to stop talking and correct "Lake have a Sue" the whole time I'm there.

And while I'm headed west on I-40, that would allow me to get some route 66 pictures on the way to "like have a Sue, " since a lot of the little towns on I-40 still have pieces of the original Route 66 going through town, so you can find very picturesque motels, restaurants, and the actual neon signs that dotted the "Mother road" original route.

All those locations would keep me in the northern part of Arizona, New Mexico, and the southern part of Nevada so I could easily make my way back to Gallup, New Mexico, for the Balloon Rally December 1.

Of course, I am still just guessing where I will go because many of my travels depend on the weather, what I feel like doing at the moment, and, nowadays, even the price of diesel fuel. But it's fun to think about while sitting here in this cold, snowy weather without a lot to do. It's mostly too cold for me to feel like driving around Denver, the grandkids are in school all day, and I've done everything I need to get done before I can leave. So the next interesting thing for me is to get some Halloween pictures of the grandkids, and then I'll be gone like a summer breeze.

Snow!! Your favorite thing. But water on the ground...not much, but some. Hope the mountains got a decent accumulation. And yes, you can hightail it out of there when you're ready.

I feel I've dealt with enough snow in my life. Just like living in Miami, Florida for a decade or two, I feel like I've put up with enough heat and humidity to have a negative opinion. I think if I had been living in Denver, instead of the mountains of Colorado, I might have had a different opinion on snow since they don't get very much in Denver compared to the higher elevations. And of course, when I was younger, the snow was more of an annoyance than anything else, but now that I'm approaching advanced middle-aged, I can't find anything good about the snow except the benefit of the moisture it provides to the rest of the West; and that, of course, is no small thing.

Yeah, this snow isn't much of a bother and will be mostly gone by tomorrow. It's really the frigid temperatures that came with it that's causing me problems. But like you say, I'll be hightailing it out of here in the next few days, and this recent little cold front will be nothing more than a few pages in my blog.

Like you I have had enough of snow and heat and humidity. When I was a young man I used to drive my jeep up to the mountains to drive in the snow and usually help folks by pulling them out of snow banks. In my middle age years I worked at a job outside of Crater Lake, Oregon where the entire winter was mostly spent outside in the snow. I despise snow. My grandsons pray for snow every winter. I now live in a hot humid climate and after a few years have come to despise it also.

I need to adopt your mission and avoid both.......but other factors in life prevails. Compromise and priorities are arranged.

Have safe travels....I'm going to try to make it to Arizona in February.

Sorry, it took me so long to respond, Larry, but dealing with the cold, the snow, and getting ready to leave pretty soon, I was kind of busy and didn't have much time for computing.

I gave the weather a lot of thought before I decided to become a full-timer, and spending most of my time in tolerable weather conditions became of utmost importance to me in my future life. The older I got the less desire I had to deal with the heat, humidity, or slip-sliding on the snow.

Having spent the time and effort to make the decision to go full-time, I realized how difficult it is and there's not many folks that are able do that. Life has to line up just right to live in an RV, following the sun, and all the while being comfortable and happy. It's difficult enough to be able to do that if you're a solo traveler like myself, but if there are other people involved, the difficulty increases exponentially with every person that's involved in your life. And every one will bring their own priorities and compromises....such is life.

Arizona is a great place to be in February, also March, and April when the flowers are in bloom.
