It looks like nature has put another stumbling block in my way.

I'm all packed up and ready to go with the intention to leave tomorrow. Notice I didn't say "plan" I'm attempting to ban the word "plan" from my blog because making a "plan" is too much effort, seldom works and inhibits my freedom. So I'm trying to make "intention" my new word of choice.


So along with my vocabulary problems, It seems like the difficulties of getting on the road to my mini-vacation just won't end.

 Colorado forest fires have closed the busiest Interstate in Colorado, I-70, for an undetermined time. Traffic is being routed onto the two-lane roads I'm going to use to get to where I'm going on my mini-vacation. Maybe things will get better before I leave but I-70s been closed for seven days now and they've already been experiencing traffic problems on the two-lane roads so I'll just have to wait and see if I'm going to have to change my plans again and leave the middle of September. Hopefully, remembering to pack my thermal underwear, which I will surely need by then.

Putting thousands of cars on two-lane roads and driving them over the mountains has more problems associated with it than the obvious ones. For instance, the gas stations in those little one-horse towns are running out of gas, and they're having trouble getting deliveries because of all the traffic. And the local mom-and-pop grocery stores, that were already short of stuff because of the Bat flu are now having to deal with not only slow deliveries but more people than they know what to do with.

Changing the subject, I don't like the refrigerator in the little Bronco camper. It doesn't keep things very cold. It seems to use a lot of propane. And It's got a cooling fan hidden somewhere in it that's noisy and runs almost all the time. I had planned on working on the refrigerator when I got back from the last trip to see if I could fix some of these problems. But, before I ever got around to it, I decided that a decent ice chest might work better for me than this refrigerator.

So after giving it some thought, I bought a moderately priced ice chest and put a little extra insulation in it. Now I'm going to use it exclusively on this mini-vacation and see how it works compared to my previous experience with the refrigerator.

This will not be a new experience for me. The Hallmark slide in pop up I had many years ago was built at my request without a refrigerator, just an icebox, and I used it for mucho years without much difficulty. But back then, blocks of ice were easy to find, and of course, they last much longer than bag ice, but I've gone to three grocery stores now and can't find a block of ice. I'm in the process of freezing some gallon jugs of water at the moment.

PS... The next time you hear from me I should be somewhere in the mountains. And if you don't hear from me its because I'm somewhere in the mountains and don't have any Internet.
