For some reason I keep thinking about all those disaster movies where society falls apart and hundreds of thousands of people are leaving their gigantic uninhabitable city, which is often as not Los Angeles, and there driving walking and crawling out of California to escape their collapsed society.
Hmmmm, I wonder why I would be thinking of something like that right about now? I guess it could have something to do with people in Los Angeles just now cleaning out the grocery store shelves while their mayor tells them not to panic, and me being only 15 minutes from the California border, and 3 1/2 hours from LA .... and I'm not talking about Lower Alabama.
Now I know my scenario sounds like a poorly written plot for an HBO movie but panicky people do strange things, and the more they panic the worse they get, and if you put them in large groups some people, not many, but some will become dangerous, and having lived through a lot of hurricanes in South Florida I speak from experience on that subject
At this point I see no evidence that scenario might happen, nor have I seen any reason why anyone will have a reason to panic over the Coronavirus, but despite that I still feel just a teeny tiny bit vulnerable not just because I'm that close to Los Angeles but I'm next to I-10 which is arguably the main Interstate most folks would take leaving Los Angeles.
So I think when I leave Quartzsite in about 10 more days I will probably be looking for a place to stay where I have a little less exposure to any big city problems that might come along. Like I said I'm not expecting anything like that and I think anything like that happening is extremely remote but since I have wheels and can boondock most anywhere I want why not pick a place that I feel a little safer.
I took this picture thinking I was capturing an orange flying saucer hovering over Quartzsite, I know orange is a strange color for a flying saucer but work with me here. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a kite. That's very strange since everyone in Quartzsite is over 100 years old, who would expect to see a kite flying around...... A flight for life helicopter, absolutely. A skydiver, why not, what have they got to lose? An advertising banner for Metamucil, perfectly believable. But a kite?
Self isolating isn't so bad, come to find out I've been doing it for years and I thought I was just being antisocial. But now everybody's spread out except friends that want to be close together.
