it was cold last night

if I had a choice to click or not, I would choose to click lest I forgot like old folks do when their memory's shot.

I woke up this morning to a thick fog that obscured the view of my nearest neighbor in the campground, which is a class "A" a couple of hundred feet away. The fog was bad enough that I couldn't see any Cranes flying around, even if there had been any. And I definitely didn't want to drive too far to find them. So I settled into the Lance and waited for it to burn off.

It got down to 28° last night, which is pretty chilly, but I was toasty warm as my small electric heater ran all night on free electricity. I never run a propane furnace all night, but for some reason, an electric heater seems safer to me. It reached 60° after lunch, making it a pretty decent day.

After the fog lifted, it was getting kind of late, so I didn't want to go searching for any Sandhill Cranes, so I went to the Sand Dunes National Park to see what it looked like with a bunch of low-hanging clouds and being rained on most of the night. I've been to the Sand Dunes many times, but it's always been on bright sunny days, and I might not have gone there had it been another sunny day, but I figured the clouds and the rain would make the Sand Dunes look different.

I didn't stay at the Park very long because it was 41° outside and I was freezing. In a dry climate, 41° isn't too bad, but at 10 a.m., with the ground wet and clouds covering the sky, the humidity must've been almost 100%, so 41° had me missing summer weather.

Today looks like the last day of bad weather in the Alamosa area; for as long as I'll be here, it seems like the weather will be sunny and warm with no rain in the forecast, but it's still going to get down in the 20s at night.

So tomorrow, I reckon I'll head over to Monte Vista, the Sandhill Crane viewing capital of Colorado, and see if I can spot some of the ungainly birds. If nothing else, I can walk around Monte Vista, a pretty little town that has adopted the Sandhill Cranes as their own, and make extra money twice a year, during the Fall and Spring when the Sandhill Cranes migrate through the area.

After the fog had lifted a bit, I went for a walk around the campground and took this picture of the Lance. You can see my nearest neighbor in the center, right of the picture. it looked to me like there is only 10 or 15 RVs here, and this is a pretty big place since it used to be a Colorado State Park.
