Instead of going where I had planned on I ended up staying at the Escapees RV Park in Deming New Mexico. I figured it might not be a great idea to run around on a weekend trying to find a spot at the state Parks especially on a Spring Break weekend. Escapees RV parks have boondocking rates about the same as the state parks, which is eight dollars a night, and their boondocking is seldom crowded so I signed up for a one week stay which should give me plenty of time to look around and think about where to go next. Deming New Mexico is not exactly the most scenic spot in New Mexico, its kind of dry and desertey without the beauty of a real desert. It's the kind of town along I-10 that you either drive on by at 75 miles an hour, or you stop at the Walmart, pick up a few things and keep on going. But there are a few things that make the town useful for me. They have a Walmart and that's a big deal, they have an Escapees RV Park where it's always convenient, safe, and inexpensive to stay, they have a Wells Fargo office that I can turn to if my Internet banking is not going well, and they have a Verizon store that can show me what all the buttons do. Another thing Deming has is Rock Hound State Park about 5 miles outside of town. And rock hound state Park is the only state Park in New Mexico, as far as I know, that encourages you to take pieces of the park with you. So if you like to dig up pretty rocks with fancy names, park your RV at Rock Hound and dig till your hearts content. theboondork |
