it's time to relax

This is the Civic Center in Como Colorado. But I have a feeling that because of the bell on the roof,  and  some antique playground equipment in the yard, this was probably a school back in  Como's heydays.

I've noticed there are more 80s in the 10-day weather forecast than there are 90s, so things are looking up, and my favorite time of year, which is Fall, can't be far behind.

Since Sunday is a weekend and a holiday, I had planned on getting plenty of R&R today and not doing anything that required any effort. Plans like that aren't always possible, but with my many years of practice and experience, I accomplished absolutely nothing today except writing this blog post.

Many folks, especially at my age, have learned to relax, but how many, I wonder, have learned to do it "guilt-free?" Not many, I surmise.

Relaxing is not just a physical condition; it requires no small amount of mental control to prevent even the tiniest amount of remorse from sneaking into your mind and spoiling an otherwise perfect day.    And that's what separates ordinary retirees from those of us who have mastered the fine art of ultimate resting and relaxation, which the military refers to as "Ultimate R&R."

I see retirees all the time who are constantly running from place to place in an unconscious effort to tell themselves that they're doing something useful when what they're doing is fooling themselves into thinking that they still have a purpose in life instead of learning to relax and watching life go by from a distance.

Some folks have a burning desire to be useful to justify their existence and, therefore, must be busy for at least some part of the day.

But speaking for us Baby Boomers, since we're the predominant geezer group in the country, I say, relax, sit back, and let the world go by, enjoy some Ultimate R&R.

My generation in its infinite wisdom has already given the country, drug addiction, endless wars, a plague that killed millions, a crooked failing government, broken borders, broken families, worthless money, no respect for the law, teachers that don't teach, people that don't know if they're male or female, and  United States that are no longer united...... I say relax, settle down and enjoy the fruits of our labors; we've done enough.
