It's too hot, I need some altitude.

Huérfano County Courthouse Walsenburg Colorado. Huérfano is the Spanish word for orphan, and is the name of a small volcanic mountain out in the plains that sits off by itself, hence the name orphan.

I usually don't make up my mind this early to do much of anything, but in this case, it's hot enough that I need to get up in the high country where I can cool off for a while, so I decided to head up to Rocky Mountain National Park, which is one of the quicker ways to gain some altitude and locate some cool weather when in the Denver area.

I want to get as much time camping in the Lance as possible while in Colorado, so I can have it ready to go by the time I leave for my winter travels, which, as I mentioned before, looks like it's going to be late October.

As luck would have it, next week looks like it's going to be cloudy and a little bit rainy, just like my mini-vacation to Tincup. That might give me great cloudy mountain pictures with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Or, it might be too cloudy to see anything, and as usual I won't know until I'm there.

But that's okay. I need some more time living in the Lance to identify any problems that may arise. And getting out of this heat will be fantastic. So, either way, this mini-vacation will be successful.
