Lake Havasu

I just got here so there's not many pics to click.

My new Lake Havasu boondocking spot... Also known as "Home."

This morning was an easy drive to Havasu since it was only about a 40-mile drive from Parker. I pulled into one of the first big boondocking areas as I approached Havasu from the South on Highway 95, about four miles from town. There are two or three other big boondocking areas before you get to town, and I'll probably end up staying at some of them before the holidays are over, so I might as well start with this one.

I think my favorite boondocking area is right across the highway from a large park called SARA Park, which stands for, Special Activities and Recreation Area. I've stayed there a couple of times before, and it's really convenient to drive across the highway and be at a park that has hiking trails, Jeep trails, an RC airplane flying field, a rodeo arena, baseball diamonds, and other stuff that's either fun to do, or watch. It also has some dumpsters, so it's a handy place for us boondockers to take our trash.

Walmarts at the other end of town, as is the place where I get my propane tanks filled. And fortunately, there are two or three boondocking areas at the Walmart end of town. This is handy for me; with my home on my back like a turtle, I can shop at Walmart, and there's a boondocking area about a mile away. Like I've said before, Lake Havasu is a great town for boondockers.

I'll probably go to Walmart tomorrow and buy something for Christmas dinner, although I'm not sure what. I'm not set up to do much cooking, and I'm not sure I ever could be with a two-burner stove and extremely limited counter space.... My kitchen is more of a "warm it up" kitchen.

I'm glad I stayed in Parker another night; when I got there, it was blue skies without a cloud in sight, but later in the afternoon, some clouds moved in, providing a decent sunset. And then luck was really with me when I woke up and saw the clouds were about to give a beautiful sunrise, so I had to walk pretty fast to get to the other side of the casino to get a picture of the casino with the sunrise behind it.

There must've been a lot of dust in the air because it was the reddest sunrise I'd ever seen in my life. It's still cloudy today, which is one of the reasons I stayed another night, hoping I could get some decent sunset snapshots.

Today is the first day of winter, so I think it's appropriate that I'm in one of the warmest places I've been all Fall.

I see that most of the country will suffer through some really cold and snowy winter weather starting about now, which will cause a lot of problems for everyone. And I feel your pain, I truly do. But at least while you're driving through a blizzard, you will have a firsthand understanding of why I get out of Colorado in the winter, because cold and snow like the kind that's on the way to the rest of the country is normal winter weather for the mountains of Colorado where I lived. The low tonight in Denver is predicted to be -9° and Denver is nowhere near the altitude I lived at.

But times have changed, and I have come to my senses, so you may be happy to know that I'm far from the vicissitudes of snow and cold, blissfully camped under a radiant desert sun in 70° weather while boondocking near Lake Havasu Arizona.
