Making myself at home

My new digs at Elephant Butte State Park. When I opened up the little hatch cover to get out my electrical plug, there were cobwebs on the wire.

I made it safely to Elephant Butte State Park in New Mexico and am now plugged into electricity for the first time, I think, since the middle of January. It was a great morning for driving, I was heading mostly east but it was overcast all morning so I didn't have the sun in my eyes.

I spent a few minutes talking to the campground host when I first got here and according to him, I won't be getting a free nonresident annual camping pass [ACP]. The last ACP I bought expired March 5, 2020, and the state didn't close down camping until early July 2020, so it looks to him like I'm out of luck. But on the Internet it says annual camping permits that were purchased FROM March 2019 through February 2021 gets something, but who knows what? So it looks like even at best I'm on the bubble and I'll just have to wait till I get to the head office to find out what's going on.

The host also told me that boondocking, at least at Elephant Butte State Park, maybe all of them, has been closed, and will open back up Saturday. So I need to find out how they're going to handle boondocking when it starts. Because places like Elephant Butte probably don't even know how many boondocking areas they have, so I don't know how it's possible to reserve a site for boondocking.

Oh well, I guess it will all work out, or at least I hope so. I've got about a month and a half to run around New Mexico, and that free boondocking and cheap electric hookups is well worth the price to me.

The campground is a little more than half full.

But I still managed to stay away from the crowds as much as possible.

Most of the empty sites, are back- in sites. It looks like I'm not the only one that has a teeny-weeny problem backing up.
