I haven't made much progress working my way back to Colorado today. Fact is I'm still parked at the Walmart in Fort Stockton.
I woke up this morning with the intention of leaving but while eating breakfast I decided that I had no real reason to leave other than getting out of Texas before the Spring Break rush starts on Friday. Since I was pretty comfortable here last night with no problems, and woke up this morning to find 16 RVs camped around me I felt like I was in good company. But the main reason was, the Internet. Walmart has some really good free Internet in the parking lot and it's fast enough that I can download things pretty quick, so I figured having another day of free fast Internet would be a good thing so I decided to hang around for one more night. Having free fast Internet is not only good while I'm using it but it saves data on my Verizon phone so I can carry it over to next month which benefits me on down the road.
When I do leave here, which will probably be tomorrow morning, I'm going to have a long drive to make it from here to El Paso Texas. It looks like it's going to be about 230 miles or so which breaks my self-imposed rule of driving only 200 miles a day or less. The reason for such a long drive is there doesn't appear to be a Walmart between here and El Paso or any other free, or expensive place to stay. There is a Texas state Park in Balmorhea Texas, and I may stop in there just to see if they have room for me, but if not I'll just keep on going to El Paso.
I'm not that thrilled about staying in El Paso because it has a reputation of not being very safe, and has been that way since the cowboy days. So I will try to stay on the outskirts of town, or drive another 20 or 30 miles to Las Cruces New Mexico.
I've heard tales of this fifth wheel gadget but I've never actually seen one in person.
It looks like the obvious benefit of this is it takes the weight of the fifth wheel off of your truck. But it sure does add a lot of length to the whole rig. It must be interesting to back up, but anytime I back up people run for cover. I'm not sure if this isn't a solution looking for a problem.
