Clicking the pics requires a burning desire to see the pictures slightly bigger. Nighttime Rose.
Flower buds.

I had the same problem with my father's WWII army footlocker. Since I live in the same county where he was born, the local historical museum took it. I had a little story to go with it as he was in the landing at Salerno. Anyway, nobody but me cared about it, but I found it a home. Who knows now what will happen to it later on, but I feel good about the situation. My own personal stuff I'm a lot easier about tossing.

Yeah, I think the things I associate with friends or family members is hard for me to let go of. Next in line of things that are hard to part with would be things that remind me of my childhood, especially the good parts of my childhood. Other than those things, I can part with everything else fairly easily. It may be a little difficult to make up my mind to let it go, but once it's gone I don't recall having any regrets getting rid of of all the things I've removed from my life when I became a fulltimer. In fact even though it may have been a little painful at the time, I don't think I've missed any of it... After all it's just stuff.

I think as we get older things become memories that we associate with the good in our life. Unfortunately the younger folks don't associate those things to their life and have no need to keep them. We have donated some of our parents keep sakes to museums and my wife has even sold some on ebay not for profit but to pass them on to someone who will likely appreciate them.

You're right Larry, the kids don't care much about their parents old things anymore. If you think about it back in the old days things didn't change very much, the granddaughter was still using the same cookware that her great-grandmother was using, so giving the granddaughter great grandma's iron skillet was a good thing and she appreciated it.

High school theater groups sometimes take old things to use as props.
