I grew up in a city but our small church was still the center of our community. Social events there happened often.

I believe America used to be a very religious country, especially in the South where I was raised. And you're right, a lot of social events revolved around the various churches in town, but it looks like those times are about over, and I don't think were better off for it.

Looking back I don't think my childhood church was religious. It was full of tradition and social events. God didn't really play a part. Even the songs we sang were because they made us feel good rather than praising God. I later attended a church with a minister of music who mentioned being sad about so many churches singing about harvests and childhood memories which made me see church music differently. I can still recite some prayers that had no meaning for me at the time--it was just tradition to recite them.

Since I was raised, and attended church in the South, the Baptist Church is what I'm most familiar with. And the Baptist Church controlled most everything that went on even in town.

I don't think I can change your mind KennyD, because I'm not sure you're not right, that may very well be the way things turn out. And even more frightening to me is we may only be one election away from your prophecy coming true. And even if we win that one election we can't underestimate the tenacity of the people that hate this country and will go to any lengths to change it... We have to follow the rules, they don't.

IMHO the Republican party has a long history of selecting Vice Presidents for immediate political expediency and not for future electability as a future president. Pence and Chaney are examples. Trump needs to select a VP that is electable as a President in the future. I have a lot of negative feelings about this election as I fell that the Democrats will do anything to maintain power. I mean anything.

I agree, the Republican Party is always looking for a VP that can bring along his home state and almost never their electability. But this time they need a VP that is an actual Trump clone that has an identical political philosophy, and the guts to stand up and face the attacks that will be coming at him.... Or her as the case may be.
