More truck camper opinions

 I still enjoy taking pictures of flowers at night. I think it started in Tucson at the Fairgrounds when there were rosebushes about 100 yards away from my boondocking spot, and enjoyed, in the cool of the evening, walking over there and taking pictures after it got dark. A small flashlight, or a headlamp was all I needed besides a camera. I'm not sure if the pictures are any better, but I sure enjoyed doing it.

It's been getting pretty warm around here, but it's been warming up so slowly that I'm adapting to it and getting used to the heat just like folks did in the old days. Having lived in Miami, Florida, with no air conditioning when I was a teenager, I figure if I can stand that, I can stand just about anything. And so far I don't feel the need to plug into my daughter's garage and turn on my air conditioner. I try not to get used to air-conditioning since it makes my boondocking life difficult when I don't have access to air-conditioning. I find its better just to get used to it, that worked for every generation until mine.

But getting back to truck campers, I don't think buying a truck camper is worth it unless you already own a truck capable of carrying the weight of the truck camper. If you have to buy a truck and a slide-in truck camper, I believe I would prefer to buy a camper van and use it as a daily driver.

 One benefit a truck camper has over a camper van is you can take the camper off of the truck and let it sit somewhere while using the truck as your daily driver. I've seen it done numerous times in my travels, and even though I've never done it myself, I think it might be beneficial under certain conditions.

For me, It might be beneficial when I'm boondocking at Elephant Butte State Park. There's only a handful of boondocking sites that are primo, and there in high demand, so it kind of worried me this last winter traveling in the bronco when I would have to mark my boondocking spot as "site taken" and then drive to the grocery store, I was somewhat concerned that someone might take my spot while I was gone, which couldn't happen with a slide-in camper sitting there.

But by far, the best thing about a slide-in camper is its ability to go anywhere that I would ever have the desire to go, do it quickly,  easily, and as stress-free as driving an RV could possibly be.

Now I don't mind a few challenges when I'm boondocking, in fact I welcome them, I believe there's an old saying that goes... "Without challenges, adventure is impossible." But despite enjoying a challenge or two, It's really hard to describe how I felt living and traveling in the bronco last winter. It opened up places to boondock that I wouldn't dare take the Arctic Fox,

I drove past a lot of places that I never would've stayed in the past, but with the bronco, I easily could have stayed there if I wanted to. And I think the ability to do that will become more valuable as more people buying all these new RVs discover the ever-increasing cost of RV parks, the headache of booking months ahead of time, and the ambience of some RV parks where you're living closer to other people than in New York City.

Where I could safely pull the Arctic Fox was very limiting when it came to finding boondocking spots. And not just boondocking spots; it was very limiting staying at state parks in less I could find a pull-through, so I didn't have to go through the hassle of backing up the Arctic Fox. I can do it, done it many times, but it's usually difficult, sometimes embarrassing, and every time; stressful. But with the bronco, the kind of sites available was of no concern to me. Because I knew I could show up and get into any site they had open with the bronco... And that's what I call freedom, and with freedom comes happiness.
