moseying on down the road

There was a couple of rainstorms at the San Luis wildlife area while I was there, and here's some pictures I took of one of the rain storms.

I decided to mosey on down the road, and instead of going back the way I came, I just kept going over the mountain and came down in Gunnison, Colorado.

I spent a few hours in Gunnison, having breakfast and visiting a museum. There's a decent-sized university in Gunnison called Western Colorado University, so needless to say; there are a lot of college kids in town. Unfortunately, Gunnison doesn't seem like a very good place to be if you're young; other than mountain-type things, there's not much to do. Quite often, Gunnison has the coldest temperatures in Colorado during the winter. So I would imagine Spring Break has a special meaning to these students.

I kept heading east out of Gunnison and, by afternoon, ended up at one of my favorite places, the free camping at San Luis wildlife refuge just down the road from the Sand Dunes National Park, where I settled in for a couple of days of mild temperatures and lots of relaxing.

Every day I'm putting more and more things away in the Lance that I'm going to need to live in it, and I can already see that I've got to build a couple of shelves in two of my storage cubbies for random groceries.

I've only slept in the Lances bed while it's in the north-south position one night, and already I don't like it. But I will give it one more night to see if I can find something good about it, although, at this point, I doubt it.

Theboondork

The clouds build up slowly over the plains, and will mostly produce Virga that evaporates before it hits the ground.

But as the clouds rumbled towards the nearby Sangre de Cristo mountains, the rain gets more serious

Once it reached the mountains the rain would be coming down in buckets, with cloud formations that look like the end of the world.

Dry gulchs fill with water, and the arroyos overflow as the rain clouds stall and concentrate on the mountains.

But then, almost as if it never happened, the clouds break up, the sun shines through the cracks and the once dry arroyo's do the job nature intended by rapidly carrying the runoff away, and sooner or later to the Gulf of Mexico.
