So far I am in agreement with you especially with the under powered part on the class C. I am still undecided what is next for me. Definitely not larger and hopefully a good bit more maneuverable.

Being ignorant about all this, I just looked up Class C campers. My goodness. First and only number I saw was $71,000. But then, I hear it's possible to pay that for a pickup truck these days. Looking forward to seeing the Lance setup. Good luck to you guys.

You're right about pickup trucks being expensive Judith buying one comparable to the truck I'm driving now would cost about $65,000. And $71,000 for a Class C would be incredibly cheap. New ones usually start out a little over one hundred thousand and top out around half a million, but the ones you get for half a million are really nice.

I have been researching finding a replacement for our aging trailer for the past year. It has been the wrong time to look as the prices and quality are all over the place. I have researched the Mercedes chassis and the complaints about them is that they are expensive to service, it is hard to find service, and they are expensive. The positives are is that they are fuel efficient for a camper, most years are reliable, and there are a lot out there in the Class B frame.

The folks I've talked to that are driving these Mercedes van RVs, like them but realize that finding places that can work on them is difficult. But like I mentioned most of the ones I see are almost new so maintenance isn't a problem yet. I notice a lot of these "Amazon Prime" delivery vans bringing my packages to me, I imagine when those Mercedes vans age out, which for tax purposes used to be three years. There might be a lot of used Mercedes vans on the market that will be turned into campers.

My conversion van had a 40 gallon fresh water tank and 20 gallons each gray and black. I never used more than half the fresh water so I'd probably go half that size next time. But the name brand vans tend to have 8-9 gallon black tanks and that would never work for me. It was on a Mercedes chassis and I hated having to fill the DEF tank but I loved getting 18-20 mpg. And no that diesel was not noisy.

Due to the somewhat limited carrying capacity of my truck the weight of that water means almost as much to me as the amount. And of course the same thing is true for the holding tanks.

There's a Mercedes dealing in Phoenix. Not cheap but gorgeous and they feed you breakfast.

A long time ago I felt the same way about diesel engines, they had a sound not unlike a 55 gallon drum half-full of rocks rolling down the road. They stunk to high heaven, and worst of all they poured huge amounts of black smoke into my fresh, clean, mountain air.
