Normal people

Early Sunday morning, at the "best" boondocking spot at City of Rocks State Park.

Another beautiful and peaceful day in the City Of Rocks. Even though the place is full, it's still very quiet because everyone is parked within the rocks, and that seems to limit the amount of noise coming from their barking dogs, music, or their generators.

Sunday is leaving day for most folks, so there's a mass exodus out of most state parks late Sunday morning, so normal people can return to their normal daily lives on Monday morning. I, of course, avoid this by not being normal.

Since I'm not normal, I get to sit in my boondocking spot and watch most of the campground pack up and leave before the official checkout time to avoid paying for another day of camping. Not being normal, I don't even know when checkout times are, I leave whenever I want to go because I don't pay anything to camp here to start with.

I usually leave a campground on weekdays because that avoids the rush of normal people who typically leave on Sunday morning. And I typically choose to check into a campground no later than the middle of the week to avoid all the normal folks that check in on Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings. It's slim pickings for good camping spots on a Saturday morning, and I feel sorry for the normal families with a carload of kids rushing around the campground trying to find a place to put up there tent for the weekend.

The normal working family is usually in for a pretty hectic weekend, taking the kids on a camping trip and keeping them fed, sheltered, and safe while at the same time trying to forget about all of their normal workday problems. I always found that when I was normal, I would get home late on a Sunday afternoon,  a lot more tired and worn out than when I started the camping trip.

But all that's behind me now that I'm not normal. I go through life relaxed and with very few worries or stress to keep me from enjoying  boondocking, and appreciating every day of how great it is not to be normal.

Sometimes I have a desire to take a black and white picture or two.... Why I don't know! It could be because after I see them, it's a long time before I want to take another one.

Black and white pictures are supposed to be artsy, and the best way to get people to recognize that your photograph is artsy is to give it a name, after all, every picture hanging in a Museum has a name, so I have named this picture "Bob".... Why? Because "Bob" is a mysterious name for a picture of a rock, and since black and white pictures are always mysterious, the name "Bob" makes everyone wonder why didn't I name it "The Rock?" and before you know it all you can think about is the mystery of "Bob."

The film days were tough times for an amateur picture snapper like myself. Lacking the skills and the knowledge, I couldn't develop my own film so I had to send it away, and usually two or three weeks later I would get 24 or 36 dark, blurry photographs with no idea why my pictures were under or over exposed and usually blurry. This was particularly troublesome when they were family vacation pictures and it was going to be two or three years before I could afford another vacation.
