Not again !!!

Since New Mexico is one of the first places I plan on going  this Fall, I've been keeping my eye on the current Bat flu situation. And since news reports don't appear all that great at the moment for New Mexico I've reverted back to my original plan at the beginning of the pandemic on how to handle my traveling plans, and here's what I did  that got me through the first part of the pandemic while often staying alone in the desert, without suffering any physical or mental difficulties.

Always interested in politics and realizing that politics influences everything in our lives, one way or another. I knew that I had to stay away from any information that might be politically motivated and glean what knowledge I could from the most reliable sources I could find, which was usually state health department websites because they had actual numbers that hopefully wouldn't be influenced by politics. I especially avoided information from news stories, people's opinions, no matter how well-meaning they were. And virtually any politician or anyone else that may have a political agenda that would give them a reason to distort the facts.

So the very first thing I would do was look up the population of the States that I was going to have to deal with, which in my case was Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado, and make a mental note of how many million people were in those states to find out what percentages I was going to be dealing with.

The next thing I would do was look up the state health departments on the Internet and see what they were showing for the number of people hospitalized with Covid and Covid deaths. The number of Covid 19 cases was of no interest to me since most cases were mild, and all those case numbers did was distort the actual danger making it look much worse than it actually was.

Then I would usually find that only a very small percentage of people were actually ending up in the hospital with the Bat flu, and only a tiny number of people were dying from it. And yes, many of those people who were having problems were in my geezerly age group, but it was still a tiny group of people compared to the population of Arizona, New Mexico, or Colorado.

I also noticed from the health department statistics that areas of the State with the lowest population also had the lowest number of Covid patients, which makes perfect sense. And it just so happened that my full-timing life, especially while boondocking, took me to some very unpopulated parts of the States, which lowered my percentages of getting the Bat flu down to almost nothing.

All that obviously worked for me since I never got sick, mostly because I'm fairly healthy and had statistics on my side. But now here we are with a brand-new shiny variant that's more contagious than the old raggedy dusty Bat flu, but most of us have been armored up with a couple of jabs that will allegedly protect us, so what am I going to do now? Am I going to stay safely ensconced in Colorado? Or am I going to enjoy my travels this winter? Tune in tomorrow, and we will all find out what I'm going to do because I haven't even told myself yet.
