Not the bat flu again !!

Roses are red, violets are blue, flowers are blooming so is the Bat flu. So click the pics while you still can.

I haven't been doing much of anything; it's just too hot. The weather guessers say there's a "bubble" of hot air sitting over most of the country, and since it's not moving, it's going to be hot for a while. Fortunately, this fits right in with my usual way of dealing with the weather, which is, I complain about it.

In the winter I complain about how cold it is, in the summer I complain about how hot it is. So at least it gives me something to talk about every day in my blog. But global warming will really simplify my blogging because then I can complain about it being too hot all year long.

It looks like the Bat flu is rearing its ugly head again thanks to the Indian flu variant, which is being called the Delta variant. Now that this variant of the Bat flu is starting to spread more and more to the United States since it's more virulent, it's beginning to appear that the vaccines aren't quite as effective on it as they had hoped. And one of the primary therapeutics doctors were using to treat the Bat flu is not nearly as effective on the Delta variant. Now we're still way better off with the two-shot vaccines, but it appears doctors are concerned about people that didn't take the shots because they have been told they already had immunity by having the Bat flu previously.

But statistics are starting to show that it looks like having the Bat flu previously does not give you as much immunity as it was thought you would have. So health officials are thinking about the possibility of previous bat flu victims needing at least one booster shot of the vaccine.

None of this sounds good to me because even though I've had my two Pfizer shots, it makes me wonder down the line how many more "variants" will there be? Will there ever be herd immunity? Will there be new variants every year that will kill a hundred thousand people until they invent a new vaccine for that particular variant? Should I start wearing a mask again?

On the way to the races in Monarch, I stopped at two Walmart's. In one Walmart, I didn't see a single person wearing a mask. In the other Walmart, I would say roughly half the people were wearing masks. Who's right? I have no idea, but at my age, I intend to err on the side of safety.

Cilantro, or Coriander, depending on which part of this plant you use, has tiny little flowers the size of the head of a pin growing in my daughter's garden.

Purple wildflowers.

Well, we've noticed some different things about the immunity effects of having had the thing itself or the shots. And as far as I can recall, nobody ever said either one would fix things. It's a contagious thing, and as long as many people don't go for the shot, then it will do what it will, mutate, whatever. In my town, 60% haven't had the shot. Good news is that 60% of those over 65 have, so maybe they won't go down like ninepins. Local numbers of infected have tripled in the last week. I live in a county of 30, 000. So far, most severe illness has been among those who haven't had covid or the shot. Oh geez. I've pontificated.

All I was going to say at first was, OK, fess up and tell what those pink flowers are. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like them.

If you want to be concerned about the Bat flu, consider this.... Yes the vaccine is doing a lot of good, but, and this is a big but, with people building up at least some immunity to the virus through the vaccine or contracting the virus, means that the viruses that escape from those of us that are vaccinated have become stronger and more able to deal with people that have immunity. That's how it survives, and that's why we have so many variants now. The old saying, "that which does not kill us makes us stronger" applies to viruses also.

Remember doctors telling us to take our full course of antibiotics because if we don't the surviving viruses can become immune and our drugs won't work any longer.

We obviously can't stop this Bat flu virus, and the vaccines are only 90 something percent effective, and those of us that are vaccinated can spread the new stronger virus. So how long before this virus mutates into a variant that can't be stopped?

I of course know the name of all plants, and any plant I don't know the name of I make one up. But I couldn't live with myself if I denied you the joy, the exhilaration, and the elation of doing your own research and discovering the name of that flower without my help. I just can't deny you the thrill of discovery that only comes from doing the hard work yourself.

I would have to be a botanist to look that up. Pink flower just doesn't work. I'd have to be able to tell the difference between petals and stamens and sepals and who knows what else, and be able to count them, and I have no idea how big or little any of it is.
You are being ornery, or else you don't know and can't remember where you took the photo.

It looks like you made three guesses and one of them was right.

I do remember where I took the picture, in fact I took a couple of pictures of that flower.

I'm never ornery, I'm the least ornery person in the world.

The correct part was "I don't know." I looked it up on the Internet and couldn't find anything that even faintly resembled it. So you guessed right.

Sorry I sounded serious when I suggested you look it up, if I ever do find out what it is I'll let you know.

I find ir interesting that all medical facilities around here are still requiring everyone to wear a mask and answer questions about potential exposure before letting you come in plus most providers are also wearing a face shield. I'm going to the dentist this afternoon to deal with a broken tooth and they've already questioned me.

I think there are several reasons why the Bat flu is heating up again, and one is the Delta variant making more people sick, especially in Israel.

Israel is way ahead of us in getting people vaccinated, and they started getting people vaccinated earlier than we did, but they're having problems with more people in the hospitals and having to reinstate some of the restrictions such as mask wearing and social distancing that the Israeli citizens thought was all over.

Previously it was said that Israel was "the most vaccinated place on earth" way more than America, and here they are going to the hospital again. Is this America's future? No one knows of course, but I've started carrying a mask around in my back pocket again just in case.
