Nothing going on so I went for a walk

I didn't do much today, so I didn't have much to write about. I just went for a walk, and these are pictures from my walk.

This is the first time since I left Elephant Butte Lake, that I can walk wherever I felt like without having to stay on a well-worn path, and my goal was to get to the top of a little hill and get a picture of the surrounding area. Since dry washes are the highways of the desert, I started out walking down a little dry wash.

When the dry wash stopped going where I needed it to go I found this convenient cow path that headed towards the hills.

Cows are a lot like me, there lazy, do nothing but eat and sleep, and love leaving piles of poop as they walk... Okay, they're not exactly like me.

I think if people should have to pick up after their dogs, ranchers should have to pick up after their cattle so I wouldn't have so many landmines to avoid.

And speaking of just below the clouds, I'm not sure how high this hill is, but it feels like it's just a few feet short of Mount Everest. I think when the great mountain climbers of the world hear about this place they will all have to hire Sand  Sherpas to carry the mountains of equipment it takes to get them to the top. Fortunately I was able to make it to the top carrying nothing but my trusty camera and a cow sized pooper scooper.

At least in Colorado when you're walking up a hill, if you lose your balance you can grab hold of a limb or a bush, but in the desert when you're walking you don't grab hold of ANYTHING! Grabbing it is easy enough ...the problem is letting go!

Part way up the hill I get a nice view of the boondocking area and my place in it. I'm only a couple hundred yards from the main road, since I have an oil change appointment tomorrow I didn't want to get too far from civilization.

On the other side of the hill I've just climbed. These boondocker's are parking alongside one of the many dirt roads in the area. I don't know if they're on BLM land, or Arizona school lands. Either way it's outstanding boondocking, and it's only three or four miles to a Safeway grocery store.

And from the top of the hill I got this nice view of Vulture Peak off in the distance. Box Wash is just on the other side of Vulture Peak, I miss it already. There's a lot of Jeep trails in this area, which is why its so popular with off-roaders, and motorcycles.

The top of the hill was pretty much made up of fist-sized rocks.  this made walking up and down the hill something that required my full attention.

My walk gave me a good view of the mountains in the area, and even some snow that probably explains why it's been so cold.

Walking back down the hill which would normally be pretty easy, was made difficult by  patches of rocks that I couldn't avoid, which to me made coming down actually harder than going up.
