Having only just realized there is a Popeye's in town, perhaps I will have to try the red beans and rice. I don't eat out much myself. Partly out of habit, having lived for many years where going into this small town meant 2 miles over a pasture road and 3 gates. When I got home from work, going to town was over. Not sure why I haven't changed much after moving into town. But now, I will branch out, find out where Popeye's actually is (only 20,000 people here so I can probably find it) and see if it is worth it.

If you get a chance to go to Popeyes, I would be interested in hearing your opinion of their red beans and rice. I've tried other brands of red beans and rice, including cooking some myself from different recipes, but nothing I've ever tried taste the same as the Popeyes version.

We don't eat out very often. It is usually for a burger as my wife is a huge "Wimpy" The prices of eat out food has gone up about 30% since the pandemic. Mexican food has always been fairly reasonable. We took our daughter out for her birthday and the bill was over $60.00 for the 3 of us with no alcohol. The waitstaff was very good so the cost was almost $80. Our two burger lunch with no fries has gone up from $12. to $17 at a local burger joint.

Cost is yet another reason I seldom eat out, and after the bat flu, just as you mentioned, restaurant prices became even higher. I stopped at a McDonald's in a tourist town as I was leaving the Rocky Mountain National Park, and they had a sign in the window advertising $18 an hour for workers. And that McDonald's was literally a five minute WALK from the local college, and colleges used to be an endless source of inexpensive labor, and now they can't get anybody to work at just about any price.

Broccoli is best served under a warm blanket of cheese sauce. When in school, I worked summers at The Beef House in Covington IN. Gained 10 pounds each summer eating that healthy broccoli. Whole steamed broccoli stalks with house made cheese sauce. Lost that ten pounds each year while at school making everything good.

This spring our local DQ had cornmeal battered cod. In Minnesota! It was wonderful. I wish they still sold it.

I like most fish cooked most ways, but in the South battered in cornmeal, and deep-fried in peanut oil, was the preferred method. Unfortunately a lot of fast food places change their menus and when something is gone it's usually gone for good.
