Oh how I long for the simplicity of paper bags

I went to Walmart this morning and had to deal with their new bag-less concept of grocery handling. I understand every Walmart in Colorado has done away with plastic bags, and now you can buy a cloth bag from them for 75 cents or bring your own. I got my own, but I only had one, and I had it so full before I left, I could barely lift it.

While walking through the aisles, looking at the stuff in my grocery cart, and realizing I only had one bag and absolutely refusing to buy another one, I stopped shopping and checked out. I already had the things I needed, so I decided I wouldn't buy the groceries and other things that I didn't really need, therefore saving myself some money, maybe losing some weight, and with any luck, slightly shrinking Walmart's bottom line.

Paper bags like we used to use worked just fine. They were strong and biodegradable, and the quick-growing pine trees they were made of were a renewable cash crop growing all over the South. But noooo! To save the planet we were forced to stop using renewable biodegradable resources, and cover the earth and the seven seas with plastic bags.

Who comes up with these goofy ideas, and why do we listen to them? Coconut oil used to be just fine and made the best-tasting popcorn. Then somebody decided it was terrible for everyone because of the cholesterol and pretty much wiped out the coconut oil business, now, coconut oil is considered a healthy food.

People used to eat lots of eggs; they were thought to be healthy. Then some fool decided eggs were a cholesterol disaster, and almost killed the egg industry,  now they're more than just fine; there beneficial.

How about dairy products? In most societies, milk, butter, and cheese were considered the basics of a healthy diet. Suddenly somebody, or some group, decided these dairy products that human beings had lived on for thousands of years were no better than a dinner table full of poison and had to be cut out completely or extremely limited for the human race to survive. So where are we now? I'm not sure, but it appears that me and most other people are back to eating normal foods again despite the the nattering classes doing everything they can to spread doom and gloom.

There's plenty more; there are so many I can't remember them all. But some groups, somewhere, needs to leave well enough alone and stop trying to come up with something that ends up being worse than what they're trying to replace.... So like I said, who are these people, and why do we listen to them?
