on the road again

Halloween was yesterday and so are the pics you see today, but even though they're far away give them a click anyway.

Yesterday the elementary school had a Halloween parade, where hundreds of kids and there teachers wore their costumes to school and paraded around the buildings while a whole bunch of parents, and grandparents, watched.

I wanted to avoid taking chances on driving the mountain route to head south. It's prettier and might have some picture-taking opportunities, but it can also have icy roads, so I took the safe and reliable I-25 south to get out of town. I ended up in my usual overnight boondocking place in Trinidad, Colorado, at the Walmart parking lot.

Because of the bad weather in Denver last week, I didn't get a chance to shop to stock up for the trip, so staying at a Walmart parking lot gave me plenty of time to buy some much-needed food.

I only keep a little food in stock at my daughter's house because I get fed so much that I don't need it. But now I have to start looking at cooking for myself again, which usually means two things for sure... I will be spending more money on food, and I will be losing the weight I put on during the summer.

Saying goodbye to the family was tough and gets tougher every year. But I don't know how else to live except the way I'm living now. And that means saying goodbye more than I want to.

With a dad in the Air Force and on flying status, he flew to every hotspot in the world as soon as something would flare up. And since he was flying to these places before the news media even knew what was happening, his leaving was always a secret, so he never knew when he would return. He would just come home from work, grab his previously packed B4 bag, his U.S. Air Force issue 38 special, and tell us he would get back as soon as possible... So I got used to goodbyes, but it doesn't make them any easier.

My first few days on the road are usually just getting used to things, learning to live alone again, dealing with having no place to be and nothing to do, and enjoying that. Storrie Lake State Park is in Las Vegas, New Mexico. It is a great place to spend a few days of R&R, taking it easy and unwinding from a busy summer... [Busy for me, not for normal people.] Where I often had places I needed to be and things I had to do, and those are the very things I try to avoid during my winter travels. I try mightily not to have things that I need to do; only things I enjoy doing are allowed.

So tomorrow morning, I'll be heading for Storie Lake State Park and boondocking there for an indeterminate amount of time. I'm considering staying there till Sunday so I can get some pictures of the Old Town early on a Sunday morning when there Isn't a bunch of cars parked everywhere. but I'm not planning on anything other than relaxing and enjoying the warm weather.

My grandson dressed as some strange cartoon character that I've never heard of, but seems real popular at the toy store...I guess kids don't care about Bugs Bunny, and Daffy Duck anymore.

Evil villains wouldn't have stood a chance at the Halloween School Parade...I never felt safer.

Witches were popular.

But some kids didn't need a costume to have their picture taken.
