the paved road to Cripple Creek which is Highway 67 is mostly built on the old railroad grade of the Midland Terminal line which ran four trains a day from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek during the late 1800s. there were two other Train lines that came to Cripple Creek about that same time period. before the casinos came to Cripple Creek back when I was in business there the paved road to Cripple Creek ran through this old railroad tunnel. And since it was a single lane tunnel, it was pretty exciting trying to get through it with all the tourist trying to figure out how it worked. One summer part of the hundred-year-old tunnel fell in making it Impassable. And that caused a lot of us business folk in Cripple Creek to darn near go bankrupt. and even though there's a dirt road going to Cripple Creek that used to be The Stagecoach road, most tourist didn't know how to get there. That was a tough time. and some of the business people I knew didn't open the next spring.

I remember that tunnel! I can’t believe it’s no longer used - where do you go? Above it? Around it?

With enough casino money the road department was able to blast away the mountain on the right side of the tunnel, and built the road around it. The casino's were not about to let happen to them, what happened to us.

The two cycle comment about fouling plugs. I ran two cycle outboard motors from 1957 through 1996 without ever having fouling trouble with the spark plugs. Motorcycles must do something different to foul the plugs. I never messed with motorcycles so I am ignorant on their fuel requirements.

The main differences between and outboard motor and a motorcycle engine is the outboard generally maintains a constant speed, it's either going almost wide open or it's going slow while trolling. Which doesn't allow much if any oil to build up on the spark plug.

My pleasure. Maybe next time we run into each other I can put you on the little Beta and you can experience the joy of the wind in your face and the bugs in your teeth.

Sounds when I still rode mountain bikes out west. Your comment will be posted after it is approved.
