on the road to cripple Creek Colorado

there's a lot of beautiful scenery on the road to Cripple Creek. In fact it's hard to keep your eyes on the winding narrow road that takes you there.

I got on the road to Colorado Springs today about 10 o'clock and despite the rather formidable traffic I made it there in an hour and a half.

 I spent about an hour and my accountants office explaining to him what went on financially last year and sorting out all  the papers he needed.

after leaving his office I went down the street to a motorcycle shop and bought a spare spark plug for the little Beta. The Beta being a two-stroke, and since two strokes are known to foul spark plugs, I figured a spare plug would be handy, even though the little Beta hasn't fouled  a plug yet I figured better safe than sorry.


 after that I headed for the mountains stopping in my ex hometown of Woodland Park and buying a few groceries and then on up to Cripple Creek where I spent about half an hour walking around and taking some pictures. And from there it was about an hour drive to my property near 11 mile reservoir where I set up the tent and spent my first night.

Tomorrow I'll post about my short visit to Cripple Creek along with few pictures, and why you can never go home again.

the paved road to Cripple Creek which is Highway 67 is mostly built on the old railroad grade of the Midland Terminal line which ran four trains a day from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek during the late 1800s. there were two other Train lines that came to Cripple Creek about that same time period.

before the casinos came to Cripple Creek back when I was in business there the paved road to Cripple Creek ran through this old railroad tunnel. And since it was a single lane tunnel, it was pretty exciting trying to get through it with all the tourist trying to figure out how it worked. One summer part of the hundred-year-old tunnel fell in making it Impassable. And that caused a lot of us business folk in Cripple Creek to darn near go bankrupt. and even though there's a dirt road going to Cripple Creek that used to be The Stagecoach road, most tourist didn't know how to get there. That was a tough time. and some of the business people I knew didn't open the next spring.

there were a few leaves changing around the 10,000 foot level, but nothing to write home about.

in the background Is part of the old wagon and stagecoach Road to Cripple Creek. this is actually the shortest way to get to Cripple Creek. So when the paved road was full of tourists I would take this road to work.
