Oh that I could be that lonely surfer. Showing no fear of the dangerous riptides and deadly undertows. Thumbing my nose at the great sharks that glide silently beneath my board, throw caution to the wind when faced with the slashing teeth of the silvery Barracuda. And if necessary tweak the tentacle of the mighty Kraken dare he disturb my perfect wave. Oh that I could be that lonely surfer....... On second thought I think I'll go home and make some coffee.
I've seen this before, it's a strange mental illness that appears to afflict mostly middle-aged women, and a few guys that don't mind publicly humiliating themselves. The only cure seems to be throwing a net over them, physically removing them from the beach and tossing all their "new age" music CDs in the trash. This is a very common site at the Bob Hall pier. Pier fishing is very specialized and takes very special equipment if you want to do it successfully, anyone can catch and land a small fish, but getting a big fish from the water to over the piers handrail takes some equipment that most fishermen don't normally have.
