Plan "a" being implemented

I've decided to implement my plan of moving out of the Arctic Fox and into the Lance by sometime next week, and I moved a few more things into the Lance in an effort to show myself that I'm serious. But, unfortunately, I am still plagued with a one-track mind, so sometimes it takes a few baby steps to get my mind on a track it needs to be on, and out of the rut where it's been dug in, the last couple of weeks.

Now that I'm getting more serious about putting things in the Lance that will be there permanently, I'm starting to see the scope of what I will have to deal with to keep my poor truck from being crushed by the ever-increasing weight of the corpulent Lance.

The little bronco was light at around 1600 pounds, and since I knew that living in it last winter was just a test of my ability to live in something that small, I didn't load it up to the gills with a lot of things that I normally carry in the Arctic Fox. But the Lance already weighs about 2100 pounds, and I've still got a lot of heavy items that need to go in it. And like I mentioned, even though my truck is a three-quarter-ton truck, its heavy diesel engine, crew cab, four-wheel drive and transfer case, use up a lot of weight that would normally be used to carry a heavy load like the Lance.

Some things I worry about are my telescoping ladder, which weighs about 20 pounds, which I need for working on the sides, and sometimes the camper's roof. My air compressor, which is a high-quality Viair compressor, pumps up my somewhat large truck tires quickly and accurately but weighs about 25 pounds. Then there are my four Lithium Iron Batteries, each of which weighs half of what a normal battery would weigh, but four of them still make them rather heavy. But I consider them the key to being able to boondock in comfort the way I do.

And it's not that those three things will crush my truck; it just adds up with all the other stuff I put in and will put into the Lance before I move into it. I'm going to keep my eyes open for a "Cat Scale" at a truck stop, so I can weigh the camper and see how heavy it's actually going to be when it's loaded and ready for my winter travels.
