preparing for a mini-vacation

The weather's been really nice lately, high 80s, low humidity, sunny skies, a late afternoon sprinkle every once in a while just enough to give the flowers a drink, perfect for getting outside and doing things. And sometimes while I'm sitting in my easy chair relaxing I even think about getting outside and doing something, but I figure there's no sense wasting a beautiful day like this outside when I can be relaxing inside in comfort.

So my day was spent with long periods of relaxation interspaced with frenetic periods of loading the camper for the start of my mini-vacation tomorrow. There's not a whole lot I have to put in the camper now because most of the things I need stay in the camper permanently. But there's a few things I need to do the day before I leave such as turn on the refrigerator, and put some water in the tank.

Also I need to Load up parts for whatever project I would like to do while traveling, but probably won't, and of course I have to carry the tools I would need if I actually had any intention of starting that project.

Then there's always the last-minute things that have to be loaded up, such as camera equipment, computers, refrigerated items, and whatever I forgot to put in the day before.

Then if I've done everything properly I'll be able to hop in the truck about 9:30 in the morning, after Denver traffic has abated somewhat, relax, switch my brain into tourist mode, and set my GPS for whatever destination I've decided on while sitting in the truck.

This time I do have a definite destination in mind which will be Monarch Colorado for an auto hill climb race, but I don't have to be there till Friday afternoon so I have to come up with something to do between now and then. I'll probably go to the Sand Dunes National Monument, but that place is packed with tourists this time of year so it's kind of iffy whether or not I want to be there.

But after that, I have no idea. I don't want to go any further South than that because I've got a mini-vacation to the southern part of Colorado I would like to take in the future to visit the headwaters of the Rio Grande, I've been thinking about that ever since I camped on the Rio Grande in T or C  [ Truth or Consequences ]  New Mexico, so I'll probably just decide day by day what's near me and what sounds like fun and do whatever I feel like at the moment. Who knows it might even be just sitting and relaxing, looking out the window at a new view.

As I stepped outside the Arctic Fox this fearsome creature was hiding in the grass obviously waiting for me to come out so he could have me for dinner. I was able to distract this loathsome monster for a split second by screaming like a little girl which gave me time to run back inside and lock the door. I don't know if the horrid beast is still out there but I'm not going outside again until I've lost enough weight to be unappetizing.
