Preparing for the new year

I reckon there will be a lot of partying tonight, none of which will include or affect me in any way so it will be a night just like any other. And the New Year won't affect me in any way either, except I'll be putting the wrong date on everything for the next two weeks or so.

I haven't heard of any fireworks displays in the area, but it wouldn't surprise me if there weren't some, but I seriously doubt I will be awake at midnight to see or hear what's going on.

I don't know if it's just me, but other than having to find a place to hunker down until they're over, holidays don't seem to mean much to me anymore. When I was younger and working for a living, a holiday meant getting some extra time off, or double-time pay for working. But now, with those things out of the picture, I have trouble getting even mildly interested in holidays.

Like I've mentioned before, it seems to me most holidays are for kids, and when you don't have any kids to do things with on the holidays, the interest and excitement of the holiday largely goes away.

But I guess that's as it should be; I certainly wouldn't want to go through buying all the Christmas presents, hiding all the Easter eggs, and coming up with Halloween costumes again. No, I'll just save that for the young folks that are still raising families and let them build up the many years of memories that I have. It was fun making all those memories, but I don't think I would want to do it again. Raising families, and making memories is for the young, I have enough trouble just remembering my memories.
