Looks like you're getting all geared up for winter travels. Have you decided where you plan to winter? With such a hot summer, it's anyone's guess as to how the winter will be.

Yeah since Denver has become kind of a home base for me I try to do my travel preparation work while I have access to lots of stores and a permanent address that I can have things sent to. I never planned on doing it this way, it just sort of happened.

I'm not looking forward to the cost of oil changes for the new truck. I've been spoiled because I had free oil changes for the life of my SUV, which I had taken advantage of for over 15 years. A lot more oil for this truck than the SUV.

It seems like a lot of new vehicles require synthetic oil, so if yours does it will take 10 quarts and cost around $130 or so to get it changed. As a matter of reference, my first car didn't cost that much.

Well that's great Tim, you're well on your way to becoming a full-timer. You've got the expensive, difficult stuff out of the way and now it's easy peasy from here on out. In fact other than changing addresses and drivers license and things like that....everything else is fun.

The "getting diesel instead of gas" issue has been bouncing around in my brain all weekend. I'm trying to trick my brain into thinking that the only thing that works in vehicles is diesel. It helps that I have a 36 gallon tank, so it'll be an event when I do get diesel, which should help. I think what I'm more worried about is when I take a company pool car on a trip and forget that it takes gas and put diesel in it; that wouldn't go over well at work.

Height restrictions are something you will have to get used to, not just while pulling the Arctic Fox but with the truck as well. not every drive through, or as you already know, parking garage, will fit a truck.

I had a lengthy response to your last post, but I accidentally deleted it. So, here's the short version.

I've accidentally deleted some long and laborious writings myself, and that is a really terrible feeling when you realize it's gone forever.

For my Arctic Fox, the Northwoods website says the height is 13' 5"! That's pretty darn tall and something I'm going to have to be really careful about in the Northeast. I'll either be getting an RV specific GPS or an RV app (I need to research both very soon) in order to avoid low overhead areas.

Being on a 2 lane road and coming up on a low bridge is one of my nightmares and definitely takes me out of my comfort zone when I'm traveling in unknown areas. I've never had that problem yet, and my Garmin RV 770 is supposed to warn me if there's a problem ahead, but I still check my truckers Atlas just to be sure.

My fear is coming up to a low bridge and somehow missing that it's too low and "bam" there goes my air conditioner.

The full-time lifestyle is supposed to be all about freedom, and freedom means you can go and do what you want when you want. Therefore what other people call freedom may not be what you call freedom and vice versa, that's the beauty of the whole freedom thing.

I agree with your definition of freedom and do believe that over time, my own definition will change and morph into something different. Fun and relaxation will probably become more important and the thought of anything that looks like work will become less so. But, that will take some time to develop.

I agree the Andersen hitch does look more spindly than the old flat plate hitch. But it must be just as strong or they would have been sued out of business by now. I still love mine and have no desire to go back to the old style fifth wheel hitch.

The Andersen Hitch will be here tomorrow, but I'll be out of town for a few days, so won't see it for awhile. One nice thing about this apartment complex is that they take the deliveries and I pick up at my convenience, which is really nice. I'm sure it's strong enough, it's just weird how big and overbuilt the regular hitches look in comparison. I have so many other things that I'm nervous about that I don't have time to be nervous about the Andersen Hitch and will just trust their engineers had their slide rules and abacuses calibrated properly.

I hope you realize you give away your age when you talk about "slide rules". I don't think anyone under the age of 50 as ever heard of a slide rule.
