response to Larry's comment

It seems as though the closer I get to leaving for my winter travels the less I can find to write about in my blog. That's probably because I've been in one spot so long I've written about everything of interest already, and I'm simply running out of things to say. I try not to get too redundant writing about my everyday life, which Is no more or less boring than anyone else's normal everyday life. Which is one of the reasons I take these mini-vacations to give me, and my readers, especially my readers, a break from the everyday redundancy of my life.

So I appreciate it when someone makes a comment that is interesting to me, may be interesting to my readers, and hits me on a day when I have absolutely nothing of interest to talk about. And in this case I have to thank  Larry for fulfilling all three of those criteria.




Larry, as is often the case, my laziness and procrastination get me into situations such as this. You could safely assume that in my travels during the last year, I would've stumbled into a truck stop to buy fuel that had a "CAT" scale available for a few bucks, and you would be right, but I stop at so many truck stops for fuel it was all too easy to tell myself; don't worry about it; you can weigh the rig at the next truck stop... And I told myself that for the entire winter.

So, never having gotten around to actually weighing the rig, I'm basing my weights on wild guesses, suppositions, feelings, and a tiny bit of knowledge. One of the few things I know is that the weight the factory wrote on the Lance with standard equipment is 2,100 pounds, which tells me my model is one of the lighter 825s made, which is one of the reasons I bought this particular one. I also know that my truck, which I've weighed in the past, is 7,200 pounds. The weight the Arctic Fox put in the bed of the truck was 2,600 pounds, and I have driven the truck with the Arctic Fox all over the place since 2013 with that much weight in the bed, including on the Jeep trail out to my property, and never had any problems....I believe saying "never had any problems," Is famous for being the last words you utter right before your world ends.

So I think what I'm trying to do, and I use the word "think" because I seldom "know" what I'm doing, is to keep the Lance as light as possible without actually knowing what "light" is. I'm getting to the point where I'm throwing away some of my clothes that I don't think I will need and getting rid of other things I believe I can live without. So that I can't get the Lance any lighter and still live comfortably.

When I reach the point of nothing left I can get rid of in the Lance to lighten the load and still live comfortably, only then will I be able to say that the Lance is working out for my needs. So then I could weigh the rig and see that I'm either okay or a rolling time bomb.

I'm surprised those electric jacks weigh that much; that's a lot more than I thought. Taking them off would be a huge weight savings for me, but the thought of me worrying about needing them when they're not there, seems like more stress than I can deal with.
