Running around Quartzsite

Clicking the pics may bring wealth and happiness to your life...... but more than likely all you will get is a sore finger.

Quartzsite Arizona,  boondocking capital of the country. I don't think anywhere in America will you find as many experienced, long-term boondocker's as you will in Quartzsite.  If you're just trying to learn the basics of boondocking, or want to move up to long-term boondocking, Quartzsite has the experienced people that will happily share their knowledge about the way they live, and stores that will sell you the parts and pieces you need to live comfortably, comfortably being the operative word here, for weeks if not months without hookups.

I drove into Quartzsite this morning, looked around a little bit, took a few pictures, and had planned on driving south on Highway 95 to see what was going on at the LTVA's [Long-Term Visitor Areas], but I never made it that far, so I'll have to do that another day.

I can say now without a doubt that Sweet Darlene's restaurant is out of business, and the buildings up for sale. There wwas a truck there this morning either taking stuff out or putting things in; I didn't stay there long enough to tell which, but the first time I drove by, I think I saw a sign that said it'd been sold already.

I stopped at a gas station and got some diesel fuel at $2.60 a gallon, which sounds kind of expensive to me. I probably should've brought some while I was in Parker. But I dropped a Walmart grocery bag of trash into their trashcan, which will help defray the increased cost of their diesel fuel. I actually don't have to look for places to take my trash while in Quartzsite anymore; usually, I just take it to the transfer station just outside of town, which is free.

One of these days, I'm going to have to dump my tanks and take on some water, and usually, to do that, I just check into an LTVA for two weeks for $40 and take care of everything while I'm staying there. I can dump at places in Quartzsite, but they all cost at least $10 to dump and some more for water, so the LTVA gives me a convenient and comfortable place to boondock and take care of any maintenance issues I have.

I had planned on leaving this area I'm boondocked at right now just for a new view, but I've been so relaxed and contented right where I'm at that I can't seem to muster enough ambition to pack up and leave. It may take someone moving next door to me with a surplus submarine generator chained to the back of their motorhome to motivate me enough to move to a new location.

One of the places that I had been anticipating relocating to was the Dome Rock boondocking area; it's a pretty place right next to some mountains. It's got many Jeep trails that you can explore, and I figured it would be an excellent place to unleash the mighty Beta 250 and putt around the hills a little bit. But that idea isn't going to work for me, and the picture of the Dome Rock boondocking area should tell you why.

I don't know what's going on at the Dome Rock boondocking area. Is someone giving away free beer? Did somebody open up a Hooters nearby? other than during the Big Show I've never seen this many people here before. Whatever brought this many people here, I don't want any part of it.... In less there IS a Hooters nearby. If I wanted to be around this many people I would check into a Geezer only RV resort.

Quartzsite is a great place to find anything you need for an RV. In fact one of the reasons I used to come here was to get pieces for my various RV do-it-yourself projects, and have a great winter climate to do the work.

Quartzsite is also a good place to buy rocks. I don't know why RVers would want to buy rocks since were required to watch our weight, and rocks by their very nature are kind of..... Heavy.
