Salida Colorado

Main Street, downtown Salida Colorado. Normally I like to visit these old historic towns on a Sunday morning when things aren't crowded, but this time I didn't have a choice and I had to get a few  snapshots on a Monday morning.... And as you can see I had to deal with Monday morning rush-hour.

After I left the Hill climb in Monarch, I spent the night at the Salida Walmart parking lot, which gave me plenty of time in the morning to go into downtown Salida, walk around, soak up some local ambiance, and take a few snap-shots.

Salida is a pretty little town that has done an excellent job of preserving its local history and architecture, and I do love me some historic architecture. I missed many things while in Salida, especially where the Arkansas River flows through town; there's a lot of neat things to see and do there, so I have a good excuse for a return visit.

About 5 miles down the road from Salida in Poncha Springs, where there's an RV dealer that kinda specializes in slide-in truck campers. And even though I'm not really interested in buying an RV from a dealer since, for the most part, any used camper on the dealer's lot is more than likely a trade-in that he finagled around and got for almost free and now wants twice the going price for it. But if I had been in the right mood, I would've liked to have wandered around the dealer's lot to see what the truck camper situation is.

I don't think truck campers' prices have gone up very much simply because there are just not many people interested in them. But for young folks that already have a pickup truck,  wish they had a camper van but can't afford it, I think the slide-in truck camper, either pop-up or hard side, would be a viable alternative.

This building is right on Main Street so it looks like it used to be a business of some kind, but I don't know what it would've been since it doesn't have a storefront like a normal business would have back in the day.

The "S" on the mountain stands for Salida, and since Salida is a well-known party town, you can expect to party like it's 1899.
