Clicking the pics well show a Lance camper in distress. A smoky, hazy, sunset settles over Denver on a hot August evening.

The Minnesota State Fair is the week leading up to Labor Day so there's a statewide ruling that schools cannot start until the day after Labor Day. We want nothing to keep all those 4-H kids away from the fair. It still amazes me to hear there are schools that start before then.

I guess having a school start at a particular time can be based on numerous factors such as how agrarian your state is or how much snow your area gets.

Obviously, Minnesota gets a lot of snow but we rarely close schools because of it--we just have lots of plows and road sanders. But, we also don't have mountains.

Yes just as you imagined the mountains do make a big difference. And a lot of times it's not can you get around, because most folks that live here have four-wheel-drive. It's can the parents and the school buses safely get the kids to school on time. And even if there able to get the kids there are the temperatures going to remain so far below zero for so long that its dangerous to have the kids running around in it.
