I decided to stay at Ben Avery's one more week, mostly because it's comfortable here and there's things to do, and partly because I still haven't made up my mind where I want to go from here.
One of the things I wanted to accomplish while I was here is to try and cook something. Now I know that doesn't sound like an earthshaking accomplishment to most people, but I don't normally cook anything because I don't know how. When I make something for lunch or for dinner that usually means that I heated up a can of soup, And even that doesn't always turn out well.
So today I went to the grocery store and bought a corned beef brisket, I happen to like corned beef but I've never made one myself. I have a crockpot that I'm going to use to cook the corned beef because I figured I would do less damage with a crockpot than using a stove. My crockpot is kind of small, I think it's a two-person crockpot and I don't think it's going to hold the whole brisket, so I suppose that means I will have to cut the brisket in half and freeze part of it.
Another reason I'm using the crockpot is I tested it while I was Boondocking and it only draws 4 or 5 Amps an hour, which means that I can use it while Boondocking without putting too much strain on the batteries.
I'm going to start cooking the brisket tomorrow morning and let it cook all day so I can have it for dinner. I really hope it turns out okay because I haven't had a brisket in a long time and it's one of my favorites. But just in case things don't turn out too well, I've notified the fire department, the emergency room, and have a table reserved at the local Mexican restaurant.
