Storrie Lake state Park, New Mexico

My new digs at Storrie Lake state Park in Las Vegas New Mexico.

I got to Storrie Lake State Park about lunchtime, and it was an uneventful trip, which to me is the best kind of trip. I was thinking of taking some back roads up through northern New Mexico to Las Vegas, New Mexico, but at the last minute, I decided to go straight up I-25. It's the most boring way to go. Still, it allows me to set the truck on cruise control, my brain on autopilot, and not do any thinking until I get near Albuquerque.... 15 minutes later, Albuquerque's in the rearview mirror, and I'm relaxed again.

I don't have any plans on how long I will be here; I just want to be back in Denver around the last week of May.

It was only about 60° when I got to Storrie Lake State Park this morning. It appears there's a chilly front coming through, and tomorrow's high is only supposed to be in the mid-50s and mid-30s at night. This is gonna take some getting used to after weeks of desert weather and warm temperatures at Elephant Butte.

Storrie Lake is only a bit less than 300 miles from Elephant Butte, but it's farther North and 6500 feet in altitude, so it can still get pretty chilly this time of year. But later this week, it's supposed to be back in the 70s.

Now that I'm here, I've got plans to sweep all the desert sand out of the Arctic Fox, dust all the desert dust off of everything, and if I'm feeling particularly energetic, I might even vacuum. That should kill the first day, which will leave plenty of time for recovering from all that work and lots of time relaxing until it's time to go.

Use to at Storrie Lake there was six or eight reserveable campsites, and all the rest were first come first serve.

Now with the new situation, and I don't know how long it will last, there's only three or four, first come first serve campsites, and all the rest require reservations.

 None of the first come first serve sites have any hookups, which is fine with me. And with my annual camping pass, their free. There are still plenty of boondocking areas down near the Lake, which would also be free for me, if I couldn't find a site with a shelter.

Sometimes and in some areas it's okay to be near the Lake, other times it's so slippery you can't get anywhere near it without getting stuck.
