straightening up the Arctic Fox

The weather here has been decidedly Fall like and apparently will remain so for at least the next 10 days, with highs in the 50s lows in the 30s and a chance of snow Tuesday. Weather like that is normally a motivator that would make me beat feet out of Colorado, or at least to a lower altitude, but I have to stay here to take care of some business till about the 16th before I can head South. It looks like I'm going to have to throw another blanket on the bed.

I've been doing some badly needed straightening up in the Arctic Fox. When I sit still for this long everything seems to come out of the cabinets and storage areas and end up covering every flat surface in the living room. And before I can travel again everything needs to be put back where it belongs. The problem always seems to be that when all my storage areas are packed up and full again, I've still got stuff laying all over the living room. I don't know who's stuff it is or how it got into the trailer but it's in the way and I have to do something with it.

I know some full-time RVers have rules for bringing stuff into the RV, and usually it's either, if you haven't used it in a year get rid of it, or if a new thing comes in, an old thing goes out. I've never had the ambition or the strength of character to do either one of those things. My method of keeping my possessions under control so far has been, if I can't find a place to put it in the Arctic Fox, leave it at a relative's house, or put it in the storage room. I know that's the cowards way out but so far it's been working.

I envision the summer when I put all of my excess junk on eBay and not only get it out of my life but make a pile of money in the process, but deep inside I know I don't have the ambition to start the process, I would procrastinate if I did, and I'm too lazy to deal with the hassle..... I wonder what a larger storage room would cost ?

Since I do not like to bother with selling things, my solution is the big dumpsters at campgrounds. They will eat anything.

I too have fed the maw of the voracious campground dumpster with items both large and small, and never looked back nor in any way missed the rejected object. But sometimes the object in question has an intrinsic value yet unrealized that may sometime in the future, if properly represented on eBay, bestow upon an old, and dare I say decrepit, full timer a small can of storebrand beans providing a meager, and desperately needed, sustenance that will enable continued travel down the rough and potholed road of life.

I've started putting stuff on Craig's List. Buyers come and pick up stuff by appointment so I don't have the hassles of shipping. I would never get things shipped.

I agree shipping is absolutely the worst part of selling things on eBay. I did a lot of eBay selling before I sold my house and my biggest concern was always something to do with the shipping, will the post office lose my package? Will I put the right label on the right box? Will the item arrive undamaged.

But there was one good thing about eBay, and it's a biggie, exposing your goodies to thousands of people brings in more money than something only a few hundred people see. I sold a few things on Craig's list, usually things that were too big and clunky to mail, but most things went through eBay.

But it is a conundrum. Do you get top dollar on eBay, but have to deal with the hassles of shipping? Or sell on Craig's list for a little less money and avoid the shipping problems? I haven't figured it out yet so I'll probably end up doing both.
