I spent some time working on the little Bronco pop-up camper today, and it looks like it didn't suffer any problems while I was gone. I don't see any signs of water leaks, which was my biggest concern considering how cheaply the Bronco is made.

I probably won't be putting it on the truck until I've driven the truck around for a while and have a little more confidence in its ability to start when needed. I feel good about the repair job done, but as y'all well know, when your daily driver has let you down a few times, the mental scars from those failures run deep.

I forgot to mention yesterday that my truck passed its emissions test with flying colors. I'm always amazed that a 13-year-old diesel truck can go up and down these mountains pulling a 13,000 pound fifth wheel without producing any smoke whatsoever. I think it says a lot about how clean the Duramax engine runs.

I'm glad I'm safely ensconced in my daughter's yard for the holidays and don't have to worry about the busy roads and the noisy campgrounds. It will be nice to have a peaceful quiet place to stay during the 4th of July festivities.......NOT!!! There are enough fireworks stocked up in this neighborhood to bring "Shock and awe" to the entire city of Denver. I'm not sure what it is about this neighborhood but they loooove their fireworks and light um off at every opportunity.

And I'm not talking about the little stuff that goes "pop" these folks drive all the way to Wyoming to get the real thing, the stuff that shoots 500 feet in the air and shakes the Windows when it goes off. And they're so anxious to get going they were shooting off fireworks last night just to get warmed up.

So I think it's going to get pretty noisy around here this weekend. But some noises are better than others. And I'll take the sound of fireworks going off all around me, celebrating the greatest nation on earth, than the sound of a single generator running all night.

Just what we need here is some fireworks setting the desert on fire. I have had way tooooo many prairie and other ground fires to fight to protect my home in my life to like uncontrolled fireworks being used.

Well fortunately everything around here is very green and it's a big neighborhood so there's no open fields of weeds or anything like that. And from what I understand this neighborhood has been shooting off fireworks almost forever. For some reason there's no covenants in this neighborhood that prevent people from doing things that most neighborhoods don't allow, which is why I can park the Arctic Fox in the driveway and nobody says anything about it.

But I was definitely against fireworks when I lived in the mountains, and in fact I don't remember a time when it was legal to shoot fireworks in the county I lived in. The county was almost surrounded by the Pike national forest and there was enough forest fires started by normal means to keep us all on edge without folks shooting skyrockets into it.

I get really concerned at times when fireworks residue falls near my trailer. I don't need any holes melted through the roof covering. I don;t think there is much danger of setting the trailer on fire but holes to let water in to the structure can certainly happen. Have fun with the Grands, I still hope to get to see mine in a month or so.

I hadn't thought about that, holes in your rubber roof is not good, even small ones. I should get up there and check. I been sitting here for three years in the summer and that never crossed my mind. They also shoot off fireworks here when the Denver Broncos win a game, which fortunately isn't all that often. Last time I looked at my roof it had so much dirt on it that I don't think anything could burn through.

I'm having fun with the kids, its amazing how fast they grow. And I'm sure glad I get to spend this time with them, I think I'm able to spend a lot more time with them being a full timer than I would if I was still living in a house and visiting them every once in a while. I would bet that I spend more time with the grandkids in one summer than I spent with my grandparents my entire life.

I hope you can find a place to stay in Alabama, the South sure is getting crowded. You should be able to get there okay, my trip back to Colorado seemed pretty normal, other than my breakdown of course. But the trip itself, eating, fueling up, and finding a place to spend the night was no different than any other trip. And I'm sure in a month or so it will be even better.

I have reservation at my usual place in Decatur so once I get there I will be fine. The Decatur campground does not do reservations for May, June and July. But the rest of the year I can get in there easily.

Since this fiasco year I am thinking of hitting Alabama for a month like January so I will not go so long between visits again.

Yeah Colorado's tourist season is the same way, by the middle of August most of the tourists have gone back home, then the tourist business gets really slow until fall when the leaves change then it picks back up for a few weeks. And after the leaves fall off it gets real slow again until the snow is deep enough to attract the skiers and snowboarders.

I'm glad you have a place to stay. Having a reliable place to stay feels more important nowadays than it used to. Next fall ought to be really interesting, I'm assuming the Kung Fu Flu won't be as big a problem as it is now, but it wouldn't surprise me if us old geezers weren't still being required to mask up. But other than that I'm hoping we can get back to traveling like normal..... If normal still exists then.
