The doldrums between Christmas and New Year's

Well, it looks like the Christmas holiday is over, and now we come to that weird time between Christmas and New Year's day when it's sort of a holiday, but not really.

A class "A" motorhome pulled into the boondocking area here at the old rodeo grounds yesterday afternoon, and it's the first RV that's come here since I arrived about ten days ago. Geez! I can't believe I've been here for 10 days already, my days are flying by. Typically there is a pretty regular flow of RVs coming and going from here, but this year there's only a handful of people here, and the population has remained fairly constant.

So far my predictions of big crowds this winter has been a total flop. But I'm blaming the Bat flu lockdowns on the lack of winter travelers, and predicting record crowds this Summer..... If I keep making that prediction, sooner or later I figure I'll be right.

I've been giving some thought to when I'll be heading for Tucson, and the big question is do I want to leave before New Year's or after. There's absolutely no difference in either one for me, so at the moment, I've decided I will do what I usually do, let nature take its course, and make that decision when I wake up every morning. The only thing that's important to me is to be at the rodeo, which I hope starts on January the 9th. One can't be too sure anymore with the Bat flu putting more people in the hospital every day.

And speaking of the Bat flu, I was looking at various charts from different medical groups this morning showing the Bat flu's progression in the United States, and one thing appeared to be clear, since I tend to be a "big picture" kind of guy. I looked at different charts for different states and different counties and it seems to me like there's really not much difference in how the state is handling the disease in terms of locking things down or not doing much of anything; the results they're  getting are just about the same.

Some state's peak infection rates are a little higher than others. And when they reach that peak may be earlier or later for some states, but in general, they end up being about the same. I don't think there's a single state in the continental United States based on a similar population that you could look at and say, let's all do what that state is doing, because the outcomes are pretty similar for all the states.

This is a wall mural in Ajo that took me a while to figure out. At first I thought it was a funny looking electric flowerpot, but after a considerable amount of relaxing and studying the painting, I determined that this is an abstract representation of some kind of life philosophy. What you actually see here is a bull-horn with a Bee buzzing in the microphone and that buzzing being turned into flowers coming out of the bullhorn.

I've never been very good at determining the deeper meanings of abstract art or the lyrics of a Bob Dylan song, so I will leave it  to my readers to determine the perspectival representation, transcendent spirituality, and other important meanings of this poly-chromatic work.
